The next two days were a blur. More family and friends came and said hello to Alicia and in between the nurses were showing Amanda and I things we needed to know about caring for a newborn. After the second full day in the hospital Amanda's doctor discharged her and Alicia for the next morning.
The next morning I helped Amanda get dressed. She's still pretty sore and needed help putting on her pants. As I helped her out the nurse brought Alicia in for us. I signed out both of them and the nurse brought a wheelchair for Amanda to sit in.
Once Amanda and I buckled Alicia into her car seat and I started to drive us home. The drive to the farm took a little over an hour. When I stopped the car and looked into the back seat I saw my wife and daughter fast asleep. I only smiled before taking a few pictures then getting out of the car.
I went up the porch and unlocked the door. Before I could even push it open all the way Cassie forced her way out and jumped up on my.
"Hey girl" I said and ruffled her fur. She pushed past me and ran over to the car. Cassie jumped up on the back door and looked inside the window.
I followed her and pushed her away from the window. It's then that Amelia came from Kim's house to help us. She took Cassie back inside. When I looked back at my wife through the window I saw her starting to wake up. Opening the door she gave me a smile.
"Have a nice nap?" I asked.
"Yea it was very nice. Take Alicia for me please." Amanda said.
I only nodded and helped Amanda out of the car. Once she was good I took Alicia out of the car seat. Amelia came out of the house and took Amanda's bag while helping her up the stairs. I carefully carried Alicia out of the car and up into the house.
After kicking close the car door I followed my wife into our house. Inside I found Isabella, John and Luke waiting for me. They were about to yell surprise when Amanda shushed them because Alicia is still sleeping in my arms. I quietly brought her to her crib in our room before rejoining my family downstairs.
When I came back downstairs I looked around the room to see they decorated the place with pink streamers and a big congratulates sign hanging before our kitchen.
"When did you guys get here?" I asked and hugged Isabella.
"Last night, Kim let us in and we decorated." Isabella said.
"We would have came to the hospital but she told us how you guys were coming home today so we just waited here." John said.
I hugged Luke as well before going into the kitchen to find Amanda and Amelia stuffing their faces.
"You have been cooking?" I asked.
"Of course." Isabella said and sat at the table. We all took our seats around the table as Isabella started to serve us lunch. Well in all reality it's more like an early dinner. Kim ended up joining us as we all stuffed our faces and reconnected. Amanda and I usually go spend Christmas in New York with Isabella, but sense Amanda was pregnant this year, we didn't go.
When the meal was over Amanda brought out Alicia and Isabella was over the moon. She was so excited to finally have a grandchild to spoil. John and Luke got to meet Alicia when Isabella finally let go. Seeing the guy covered in tattoos hold a little baby girl warmed my heart when Luke carefully held onto my daughter. I had to take a picture of them because I thought it was so cute. John got a hold of her next and Luke stood right behind him.
I took another few pictures of them before pulling Isabella outside to speak with her alone.
"How's the family?" I asked.
"Good things are settling down now. Joe is doing the best he can." She answered. When Dante was killed Isabella appointed Joe as the boss for the time being. But now 5 years later Joe is still in charge and the older members of the family want a new leader. They want fresh blood to lead the family in a new direction. For right now Isabella is telling me that Joe has it under control. I don't know how but I know it won't last long before the family takes out Joe to replace him. I just don't want Isabella to get shot in the crossfire.
We talked about the family for a little bit longer before we spoke about the gym. It's still doing well and there is no longer underground fighting happening in the basement. That died with Dante.
Isabella was super interested with my work though. When Amanda and I moved here to Australia I was working at National Geographic. I worked there for 3 years before I made a change. I left the office to open up my own studio and do freelance work. Along with my photography work Tomas and I opened up a gym. I missed the atmosphere of a gym and the one I went to didn't feel like home.
When I voiced my idea to Tomas he was all for it. At the time he just found out that his them girlfriend, now wife, was pregnant with their first child. He needed another job to support himself and now his family. We opened Dante's Gym in town next to my photography studio, down the block from Amanda's restaurant. The gym has been open for the past two years and has been doing well.
After we settled in here Amanda went right to work at her family friend's restaurant. Once Stu found out that Amanda was done with school and wanted to work he took her in. Tragically he passed away two years ago and he left the restaurant to Amanda. At first Amanda didn't want it. She thought his wife would want it but after a lot of talking Amanda finally took over. With the help of Betty, Amanda has been able to keep the restaurant up and running and has even been able to expand the restaurant.
So after I filled Isabella in on everything we went back inside to rejoin the family. We walked into the living room to find Amanda holding Alicia on the couch with Cassie's head right on her knee. Quickly before they moved I snapped a picture on my phone.
"How has Cassie been?" I asked taking a seat next to my wife on the couch.
"Amazing she hasn't barked or jumped up on me at all since I've had Alicia in my arms. She is just watching her." Amanda said and leaned into me. The rest of the day was spent with family time. Finally having enough around 7pm Amanda kicked everyone out. Once we were alone Amanda and I put Alicia in her crib. She was already asleep before we put her down though so that made our jobs easier. Amanda and I got ready for bed and climbed in next to each other.
"I can't believe we have our daughter here." Amanda said as she put her head on my chest.
"It's crazy to think that the last time we were sleeping here she wasn't." I said.
"I'm just so happy." Amanda said.
I leaned down and gave Amanda a kiss on her forehead before pulling her into me more. Amanda kissed my chest before falling asleep. I only lasted a few more minutes before I caved into my own exhaustion.
