I was talking to Faye today, about Charlie. Faye can be a little, socially awkward sometimes, and it's often a case of not thinking before saying something. I told her that I wasn't sure what to do because I don't want to start properly liking Charlie, but I couldn't help it and I didn't know what to do about it. Faye's my oldest friend, I've known her since we were 2, and we've always been best friends, right through primary school and even up to now. So we went out today for a milkshake and a catchup, and I told her about how I was starting to feel about Charlie. I was worried about it because nobody really knows that this might be more serious than just a bit of fun. Once I'd told her about it all, she just said "Don't like him. It's weird. Look at it from an outsider's perspective, people are going to judge you because the boy has to be older than the girl, just saying."
I'm not going to lie I was quite shocked, and also disappointed, because it was like I'd just poured my heart out to my best friend of 12 years and that's all she had to say about it. No sympathy whatsoever. I told her that it wasn't really that simple, and if I had the power to do so I would've stopped myself from liking Charlie in the first place. All she said was "Omg look at the size of that milkshake!!". Completely ignored me, and blatantly didn't care about what I had to say. She's always been like that, and she doesn't mean to be blunt but she just gets carried away with herself I suppose. She's a lot younger than the rest of us though, and she hasn't hit hormones yet, so I'm sure she'll be changing quite a lot soon.
And then there's Jade. Ava, Faye and I all went to primary school with Jade, and she's, well, a handful, let's say. She's always been treated like a princess, so when things don't go her way she creates a big fuss and when there's drama, you know Jade will have something to do with it. Yes, she did have a fairly difficult time growing up because her parent's went through a messy divorce and her dad left them, and she got picked on a bit by one or two other girls because she was such a prima-donna, but none of this means she can get away with being a bitch.
Faye and I were sort of friends with Jade in primary school, but only because there were 11 girls in the class, so everyone was friends with everyone pretty much. When we joined high school Jade was in our form and eventually she made new friends, but there was a lot of drama within their group so whenever they fell out (which was at least once a week), she'd come and hang round with us. Of course we weren't happy about it, but it never lasted longer than a few days, so we just got on with it. Then, before Christmas in year 7 we told her that we didn't want her to follow us round anymore, and when we were on our way home that night her mum drove past and shouted things at us out of the car window. Her mum's possibly even more pathetic than her, and I can't even put it in to words how bonkers she is. Anyway, after the Christmas break she made friends with her old mates and everything was back to normal.
Since then she has still come to us a few times whenever her group have done yet another thing to upset Princess Jade, but it wasn't a huge issue. She always came to speak to me about the boy she 'loved' and she thought I was like her counselor or something, but she trusted me, so I guess I didn't mind that. Anyway over the last year or so things in her friendship group have been so on-off, that she spends most of her time with us. A few months ago there was yet another big drama revolving around Jade, because someone found out that she'd written a blog about all of her friends, and said nasty things about them. Everyone read it and saw what she said about them all, and since then things have spiralled into a sequence of fights and believe it or not, more drama. I don't know a lot about what happened with that afterwards, but for some reason her friends forgave her so it was starting to become less of a big deal. But a couple of weeks ago, Jade and her best friend Kate had yet another falling out, and this time things seemed to be more permanent. So Jade started hanging around with us, and we thought that it would only last a few days until she made friends with Kate again, and things would be fine. But it's never that simple with Jade, she's impossible to shake off. And she said something to Erin about buying us all Christmas presents this year, which is when we really started to worry that this was becoming a 'thing'.
So the five of us; Me, Ava, Faye, Lily and Erin, decided that we had to speak to Jade about it and tell her that it was unfair on us, before it was permanent. Ava spoke to her and told her that it felt like she was using us for whenever she falls out with Kate and her other friends, and that she wasn't even making an effort to make friends with them and it wasn't fair on us. She didn't say anything nasty at all, but then Jade got defensive and started to play the victim but it didn't work and although we felt a tiny weeny incy bit bad, it was a relief to get it off our shoulders. But then she wasn't in school the next day. People were asking about what happened because they'd noticed she was hanging round with us and that we weren't happy about it, and everyone was on our side especially since Jade's done something to upset pretty much every other person in the year in the past, so she has no other friends. For months she'd been saying she wanted to be our form parliament rep, and on the day she was off, it happened to be the election day. So me being the lovely kind girl I am, I told sir she wanted to run for it and she got it. I sent her a message that night saying that I wasn't sure if she still wanted to or not but I put her forward anyway and she got it, since I wasn't going to be childish about it and ignore her, but then she replied snottily and started to get ratty so I just ignored her. She was in school the next day and she just ignored us, and I'm pretty sure she hates us.
But since she'd been with us for the whole of the previous week, she knew about Charlie. And she knew who he was, and she also knew that it was just a joke and didn't mean anything serious. But now that she hates us, I can't help but worry that she'll tell people and embarrass me, or put it in one of her blogs or something and I don't know what I'd do if people found out that I'd practically been stalking a boy in the year below at school for weeks, and worse, that I like him! I could always deny it, since no one else knows other than my best mates, and she doesn't have any proof anyway so I doubt people would believe her. But then, what if they did? Then what would I do? Guess I just cross my fingers and hope it's all okay...
