"Do you really have to go, already?", Stevie asked, watching him put on his leather jacket.
"You know I don't want to go, Steph. I really don't. But it's my weekend with the kids...", Lindsey explained for the nth time.
He had spent the past three days at her place and almost couldn't believe how well they had gotten along. He had thought that she needed way more time to open up to him again and get used to having him around more often, instead she didn't want him to leave anymore already, which was quite untypical for her. He figured it had to do with her being alone for so many years.
"I know..", Stevie looked at him sadly.
"I promise, I'll call you.", Lindsey said, bending down to caress the side of her face and kiss her lips softly, it broke his heart to see her so sad, "And I'll be thinking about you all the time." That caused her to smile. "These past few days with you have been wonderful. I enjoyed every second of it and I can't wait to see you again.."
"Me either.", Stevie admitted, her eyes glowing exceptionally beautiful today. It was obvious that she had already fallen in love with him again.
"And you will call me anytime, you hear me? Anytime."
"Yeah.", she nodded, kissing him back, "I will. And say hello to the girls from me."
"I will.", he muttered, placing another loving kiss on her lips, then making his way to the door, "I love you."
"I love you, too.", she said with a smile, air-kissing him before he waved goodbye and left through the door.
A sudden silence surrounded Stevie when she was left alone for the first time in three days.
"Good ol' Stevie home alone..", she muttered to herself and got up from the couch to make herself a cup of tea, Lily following her behind into the kitchen. When she got herself a cookie, the little dog started wagging its tail, causing Stevie to laugh, "Oh, you want a treat, too, sweety?", she asked and reached for the dog treats, laughing when Lily didn't stop licking her hand after eating up.
She made herself comfortable on the couch again, the dog at her side, a hot tea in one hand, a pen in the other, staring down at a very blank page in her journal. Eversince Lindsey had been at her condo, she had not found the time to write. In fact, she had not found the time to do anything at all besides enjoying herself. She had neither called any of her friends and family members nor Karen to find out what was on next week's to-do list.
"Mommy's such a dead loss, Lily.", Stevie said, causing the little dog to look up at her curiously, "A hopeless romantic..", she tickled Lily's belly, "Do you like Lindsey, huh? He's nice, isn't he?"
Lily barked in response, eliciting another laugh from Stevie.
"If things work out, you'll see him a lot more often, Lil.", she explained more to herself than to the dog.
Lindsey. What the hell had happened?! And how, for God's sake, had they ended up like this again?! Stevie couldn't help but shake her head laughingly, thinking about the past few days they had spent together. It had catapulted the two of them right back into the early seventies when they had shared an apartment together. Things had gone quite smoothly, especially for their standarts. There had been no bitching, no cursing, no pushing each other's buttons and no crying nor screaming matches. Instead, they had actually enjoyed their time together, spending most of it laughing, talking and cooking together while reminiscing about the time they had lived together in that tiny apartment in LA all those years ago.
Stevie started scribbling down every word that had been said between them the past 72 hours. Wherever this thing, or whatever it was that was going on between them, would take them, good or bad, she wanted to remember this time with him forever. Every single detail of it as it had brought such joy to her life.
