Having spent the last six hours listening to stories about horses, cute boys from school and the newest TV shows, Lindsey was now tidying up the kitchen after they had eaten pizza together. It was 11 pm by now, and as much as he loved his two girls and enjoyed spending time with them, he was glad they were finally upstairs in their rooms.
Sitting down on the couch in the living-room, he opened himself a bottle of beer and tried to relax for a minute. The events from hours before still heavy on his mind, he grabbed his phone and dialed her number, impatiently waiting for her to pick up.
"Lindsey?!"
"Steph?"
"Yeah, it's me.", he heard her chuckle and it brought an instant smile to his face.
"It's so good to hear your voice..", he muttered and closed his eyes, "I had such a horrible day."
"What happened?!", Stevie asked.
"I met Kristen's new boyfriend.", Lindsey said sarcastically, "And on top of that, I had to find out that he is pretty much living with Kristen and the kids in my house, already."
"Oh, no...", Stevie sighed at the other end.
"Yeah, I had no idea. Apparently, it is totally fine for Kristen, that only one week after our divorce was finalized, her new lover is moving in with her. In my house."
"Are you serious?!", Stevie asked him, not believing what he was saying.
"Oh, wait. The best part is yet to come!", Lindsey said and told her the whole story of how he had met Robert and later on talked to Kristen on the phone, but skipping the part where his ex-wife had once again accused him of being the one to be blamed for their break-up.
"She is being totally selfish here.", Stevie said, instantly siding with him, "And on top of that, ridiculous."
Lindsey grinned in response, it felt so good to finally have somebody he could talk to, "Yeah, that's what I thought, too."
Stevie shook her head, "I mean, it usually gets ugly when two people break up with each other.. but the two of you have joint custody for two kids, it's not fair to just make decisions without informing each other."
"Exactly.", Lindsey agreed, nodding his head.
"Well, Lindsey, what am I supposed to say here? I'm sorry this had to happen to you, today.", Stevie said softly, "Did the girls witness your fight with Kristen?!"
"Thankfully, they didn't.", he sighed, "I don't want this whole thing to be any harder for them than it already is."
"Yeah..", she nodded, "Where are Leelee and Stella, now?"
"In their rooms. I'm pretty sure they're not sleeping yet but I guess that's only a matter of time, now. They were quite exhausted."
"That's good..", Stevie muttered, unsure of what else to say to him.
"I miss you.", Lindsey said softly, he didn't want the conversation to end so abruptly.
"I miss you, too.", Stevie said, smiling at his words.
"I wish you were here.. It's so good to talk to you. It's been barely eight hours since I left your place and I'm already missing you like crazy."
"That's such a sweet thing of you to say..", Stevie said, grinning like a fool in love while playing with a long strand of her golden hair, "I really do miss you, too, Lindsey."
"It makes me so happy to hear you say that.", Lindsey replied, "God, how much I'd love to kiss you, right now."
"Mhmm, I'd love to be kissed by you...", Stevie flirted back.
