he smell of pine hung in the air, as the tinsel which was hung over the cellblock railings shimmered with the low light of the morning.
Sure it was the end of the world, and the deafening groans of the undead echoed through the prisons hallow hallways, but today the struggles of daily life where not going to get in the way.
It was Christmas, well at least what we figured to be Christmas, give or take a day; Rick and the others agreed that in order to obtain some humanity, we should carry on doing certain things that we would have done before.Everyone woke up early this morning, hoping to prepare for our Christmas party. Rick, Daryl and Glenn were all out on a run, gathering some last minute supplies for tonight. But, before they left there was some awful big talk about catching a turkey or two, which brought a smile to everyone's face.
"Can you help me with the table Y/N" Carol asked as I walked into our 'dinning room'.
"Sure" I replied. We made our way to opposite ends of the cold metal table. Together we picked it up one motion, and and plonked it down next to the other tables, which made one long surface for everyone to sit down as a family and enjoy our Christmas feast.
"Hey Y/N" I heard as I moved away from the area of the tables. I look up and see Carl standing at the other end of the room, failing miserably at decorating a bare tree
.
"Can you give me a hand?" he asked as he lost grip of the baubles before they scattered in every direction on the floor.I giggled a little before making my way over to him. I coulnt even remmber the last tine i decorated a tree.
Everyone was rushing around busy as ever to help get everything finished before it was time to kick back, relax and enjoy Christmas together.
Carl and I were about twenty minutes into decorating the 9foot tall tree, when I herd muttering behind me.
"Y/n" I heard as I snapped my head around to see who was talking... Daryl.
One of the most amazing people I've ever met in my life. Daryl and I had been friends since day one, but it was only recently that we started to get closer. Nothing serious of course, but some days I wish it were.
"Whats up Dixon?" I asked glancing down to him, smiling.
Carl and I were both using step ladders to help us get the decorations up.
"I uhh.." Daryl started to speak before there was a loud crash and bang, from the other side of the tree, Daryl and I quickly turned our attention to see Carl laying on the floor surrounded by tinsel and baubles.
"Shit, are you ok Carl?" I asked as Daryl and i knelt down next to him.
"Yeah" He laughed. Daryl extended his arm out to Carl and helped pull him onto his feet as I gathered all of the baubles together and started putting them back onto the tree.
"So Y/n" Daryl began to speak as he stood beside me.
"Give me five minutes Dixon, Carl and I have to finish this tree up before dinner, and thanks to this klutz over here" I began to say as Carl and I made eye contact and poked our tongues out at each other.
"We haven't even put a dent in it" I finished speaking as I began to hang the tinsel between the thick branches of the Christmas tree.
"Alright I'll go help Rick for a bit, then ill come find ya" he said as he handed me a couple of decorations.
"Sounds good" I answered as we both gave each other a gentle smile.
It didnt take long before Carl and I were putting the finishing touches on the tree, and it looked spectacular if I do say so myself.
