A/N In a point I mention that Nick can't drive yet... for whoever is American... don't be confused, I think you guys can drive from 16? I dunno but where I live you are allowed to drive when you get 18 so don't get confused ok?
Three hours until it begins...
Nick POV
"Hey Finnick check what I found!" I said and showed my buddy a comic book that was probably thrown away. "Nice, try to find something more useful next time" He said while looking inside a trash can, I was doing that as well. Finnick had told me that we would have to find our own food sometimes but I didn't understand what he meant until then. "Oh! Found something!" I said and grabbed a packaged meal from the restaurant behind us. Who would have known what was about to come, If I did then I would certainly wouldn't spend my final hours like that.....
"That outta do it, lets go back" He said and we left the alley, heading towards where we had parked the van. It was an old red van with a graffiti on it, seemed pretty fancy and it was our home if not anything else. We sat in the back of the van, opened the packaged meal and started eating. When we finished Finnick lit a cigarette and smoked, "Want some kiddo?" He asked.
"Nope, still too young for that" I replied and he shrugged his shoulders. "Whatever" He whispered and continued smoking. We remained sat in the back of the van for a couple of minutes, staring at the city in front of us. Nobody had every been nice to us and to be honest Finnick was the only person I wanted. He helped me survive in the slums and have a life that fit me. He always said 'Don't ask for someone's help if you wanna get some respect' and to be honest he was right.
Whenever I did something on my own I felt great knowing that I had accomplished it by myself, unlike those who mocked me... they never did anything by themselves. They always came with their friends, too afraid to face me alone. "Something's bothering you?" Finnick asked and I returned to reality. "No, I'm fine" I replied and looked at the towering skyscrapers in front of us. As much as I hated those suit guys that were behaving all classy and shit... I always wanted to have a good life like they do.
Not necessarily rich, all I wanted was a life where I could live happily with a family. "Hey kiddo, don't take that face" He said and poked me with his claw, he was right. "So what's the schedule for today?" I asked. "I dunno..." He said and left a smoke ring. "We can go take a walk at Sahara Square.... I heard there was a funfair today" I said excited. Finnick thought about a little and then agreed silently.
He hopped off the back of the van and did the circle of the car in order to get up on the driver's seat. The funny thing is that he was too short so he used gigantic shoes because he couldn't drive otherwise! I am too young to drive.... I am turning eighteen next year so I will be able to help him.
He turned on the engine and drove off, it didn't take us long to reach the entrance of the Sahara square so we parked two blocks away from the funfair. It was nice to take a walk down the sand filled roads while the camels are running their annual marathon. It's like we're in a different city when you get from Downtown to Sahara square! Everything changes, even the buildings are different.
After an hour of messing around we found the funfair! There were tons of games I could go to... if of course I had the money. "Take these, enjoy it" Finnick said and handed me over ten dollars, he did a lot of time to get those. "But Finnick... don't you want to keep those?" I asked confused, he always told me that money were hard to get and that I needed to save as much as I can.
"I do but you gotta have fun once in a while, go before I change my mind" He said and I ran inside the funfair filled with excitement.
Two hours until it begins...
Finnick POV
I left the kid play around but didn't walk away, the best thing I could do was go say hello to my Jasmine... she was here with her mother and they have one hundred percent gone to the funfair as well. I walked around until my eye caught the slightly white fur of Jasmine and her mother, they were playing a shoot-to-win game. "Hey" I said and the kid turned around. "Uncle Finnick!" She said and hugged me. "Aren't you a little too old to play here?" I asked and she raised her eyebrow.
"Lemme guess... Nick is here as well?" She asked me, knowing she was right. She had taken that ability from her mother who was smiling at me. "Yeah he's down the road" I said, she kissed me in the forehead and went to find him... these kids had a future. "So Finnick, how are you doing?" Jasmine's mother said.
"I've been better, I see Jasmine is doing great" I said and looked at the young vixen as she ran to find her friend. "I know you're in bad shape Finnick... I wish I could help" She said, I could see that she was sad about me. Nick was her daughter's friend and that was enough of a reason for her to be worried. "Look Michaela... there is no need to try to help me, we can make do on our own" I said and looked at Jasmine, she had found Nick and they were now talking.
"Never ask for help huh? You never change do you?" She said and chuckled, she knew me too well. "You know me, ain't got no reason to do so" I said and smoked my cigarette, she hated when I did that but she didn't say anything now. "Always a rebel... god you are stubborn" She said and walked towards the kids. I followed her.
"Let them have their time together, we're gonna catch up to them later" I said and grabbed her from the paw, they deserved some time alone.
The truth was that Jasmine's family was kinda rich and the whole thing was like those stories that a poor guy met a rich girl or something like that. Most of the time Nick and Jasmine weren't allowed to talk to each other because her friends mocked her when she met him, now was a good time to enjoy each other while they could.
"Want a cup of coffee? It's on me" She suggested and I said yes... I ain't no idiot to deny a free coffee. We sat there for two hours, I didn't wanna let go of that coffee at all. I never was the kinda guy who sits down to have a coffee but I sure as hell enjoyed that.
"Hey Finnick?" Michaela asked confused, I didn't say anything. "Wha?" I asked and she pointed at a building not too far away from here. "Why is that building on fire?" She asked terrified, yeah like I should know. "We got to find the kids!" She said and ran off the cafe, I of course followed her. "What the fuck is happening? Fires are just... everywhere!" I shouted when I saw two... no three more buildings burn in the distance, smoke started rising from everywhere across Zootopia.
I gotta find Nick!.....
It has begun....
A/N I know the chapter is small but the flashbacks are supposed to be small :D
