Chapter 4 : Learning about Jeff

Chapter 4

Morning...

Riker POV

I woke up, and the first thing I remembered was that I have a twin!

I sat up, put my glasses on, and looked across the room. I was actually kind of surprised to find Jeff in a lump under his blankets. I couldn't see any part of him. There was just a lump.

I was able to smell pancakes being made downstairs, so I figured maybe I'd wake Jeff up so we could go eat breakfast together.

I slid out of bed, and walked over to Jeff's. As soon as I pulled the covers down, he flinched, and covered his face with his hands. And he was shaking pretty bad.

"Hey. Sorry. I wasn't trying to scare you... Um... Do you want to come downstairs with me and go get some breakfast?"

He shook his head no, and kept his hands pressed to his face.

"Are you sure? Mom makes really good pancakes."

He shook his head no again.

"Jeff, are you ok?"

He just sort of stayed still, except for his whole body shaking. I knelt down next to his bed.

"Jeff, what's wrong? Please tell me. I'm your twin brother. I just want to help."

"P-please d-don't hurt m-me!" He whimpered.

"Jeff, I'm not going to hurt you, I swear!"

He started crying, and I sighed, not really knowing what to do.

"P-please don't t-tell! I d-didn't m-mean to!"

"Jeff, what's wrong!? What happened!?"

He cried into his hands. Ok, I really need to figure a way to get answers out of this boy.

Rydel POV

Everyone was slowly starting to come downstairs for breakfast. I was helping mom set the table. 

"Rydel, maybe you should go upstairs and wake up Riker and Jeff," dad said when I was finished setting the table.

"Ok."

I walked upstairs, and sort of froze at the top, watching what was going on. I saw Jeff crying. Riker was holding clothes, and walking him to the bathroom. I heard the shower turn on. Riker came out, shutting the door behind him.

"Hey, is everything ok?" I asked, walking over to him.

"No, everything is definitely not ok with him."

I followed him into his room.

"What's going on?"

"He's terrified, Rydel. He's terrified of everything. Apparently at his old house, he had these... these rules or something... He thinks he can't do certain things. I don't know what's going on... He didn't tell me much..."

"Well what happened this morning?"

"Well, I went to wake him up..."

Riker started pulling Jeff's sheets off the bed.

"And he flinched, and covered his face with his hands. And then he started crying. I mean, he just seems completely terrified all the time! Last night at dinner, he jumped at like... everything."

"So he's scared?"

"He's beyond scared. And he started completely freaking out this morning."

"What happened?"
