Chapter 39
Saturday morning...
Riker POV
We were on the plane right now, heading to Ohio. This is it.
I was sitting next to Jeff, who had his head on my shoulder. He was fast asleep. We sort of stayed up all night last night, talking.
I was tired, but I couldn't sleep now. My mind wouldn't stop racing. I've become so close with Jeff, and I really don't want him to leave, but I want him to live without being scared all the time. He's genuinely happy at Dalton. And I trust Nick to keep an eye on him.
Later...
Riker POV
Jeff, me, mom, and dad were in the administrator's office at Dalton now. They were signing the last few papers to get Jeff registered here.
"Alright, Jeff. You're assigned room 17 for sleeping arrangements with Mr.Duval. And you need to stop in the office across the hall from here to pick up your uniform," the guy said.
Jeff nodded.
We left the room, and went across the hall. The lady there got Jeff fitted for his uniform, and he got 5 of each clothing item.
We walked down some other hallways, and came to the dorm rooms.
Jeff knocked on room 17. Nick answered the door a few seconds later.
"Jeff! What are you doing here!?" Nick asked, obviously surprised.
"Oh... I forgot to tell you... Um... I'm your new roommate."
"Wait. You're back at Dalton?"
"Yup."
Nick hugged Jeff tight.
We made sure to get Jeff settled. Mom and dad were helping him unpack. I pulled Nick out into the hallway.
"Hey. We need to talk," I said, shutting the door.
"About what?"
"Jeff. I know you guys are close. I just need you to promise me that you'll look after him."
"Of course I will, Riker. Don't worry."
"Ok... Can I have your number so I can text you?"
"Yeah."
Nick put his number into my phone.
"Thanks... He gets really bad anxiety sometimes, and I'm just super worried about him."
"I know. But really, Riker. I'll take care of him. Don't worry."
"Ok... Thank you so much."
I gave Nick a quick hug, and then went back inside.
"Ready to go, Riker?" Mom asked.
"Uh... Yeah... Can I just have a minute or two alone with Jeff?"
Everyone filed out of the room. I sat on the end of Jeff's bed. He was sitting cross legged at the other end.
"Ok, I'm going to try not to cry... Um... Look. I never wanted you to come here because I didn't want to be separated from you. We already lost a bunch of years because of... you know... But I want you to be happy, ok? And I know you'll be happy here. And more importantly, I know you'll be safe. And I feel a little better because I know you've got Nick. And he'll protect you, and make sure you're always ok, like I always did..."
I broke into tears, but I quickly wiped them away, and tried to stop. Jeff pulled me into a hug.
"Please don't forget about me," I whispered.
"Riker, are you crazy!? I'm going to be texting you every single day."
"Really?"
"Of course!"
I sighed, still holding onto Jeff tight.
"Riker, I'll be fine."
"You say that now, but will you really?"
"Riker, I'll be safe, and I've got Nick. I'll be fine, ok? I'll just miss you a lot."
"I'll miss you too!" I said, my voice cracking.
"Aw, Riker. Please don't cry."
"Sorry... You're going to visit, right? And I'll visit you too."
"Of course."
"I'm going to miss you so much!" I said, finally completely breaking into tears.
"Aw, Riker..."
I eventually calmed down, and wiped my tears away. Jeff and I broke apart.
"Text me before you go to sleep, ok? I want to make sure you're still ok," I said, whispering, willing myself not to start crying again.
"Ok."
"Text me every night before you go to sleep. And every morning. And during your free time, ok!?"
"Ok, Riker..."
The door opened.
"Riker. You ready yet?" Mom asked.
"Yeah, I guess," I said, sighing.
I hugged Jeff again really tight.
"Text me when you land, ok?" Jeff asked.
"Yeah, I will..."
"I love you so much."
"I love you too, Jeff."
We finally broke apart. I walked over to mom and dad, who were just out the door.
"Bye," I said, quietly, waving a little.
"Bye, Riker."
We walked down the hall. I felt like I was going to burst into tears at any moment, but I just bit my lip, and tried to hold them in.
We drove to the airport. I was pretty exhausted at this point. I hadn't gotten any sleep the night before.
We boarded the plane, and I curled up in my seat next to the window. And I fell asleep.
Later...
Riker POV
I slowly walked upstairs to my bedroom, finding it empty. I felt my heart breaking inside, knowing that Jeff wouldn't be sleeping here tonight. I would be all alone...
I pulled on my pjs, and crawled into Jeff's bed. I shut off the light, and curled up, pulling the covers over myself. And I started to cry silently.
I hope he's happy at Dalton.
The end.
A/N : So... There will definitely be a sequel, possibly up today. The April Fools Prank Gone Wrong book will still be continued. I haven't given it a lot of attention compared to this book, but I have some ideas for it now... And then after it ends, or the sequel to this book ends, I will be starting a new book which will have a Christmas sort of plot since Christmas and winter is coming up. Thanks for reading, commenting, and voting. ~Kylie
