Chapter 18

The next day...

Jeff POV

Riker met me after 7th period, and he seemed weird. Like happier than usual, kind of weird...

We started walking home. We had to go slow because I was on crutches.

"So nobody hurt you, right?" Riker asked.

"Nope. I sort of like your school. Everybody sort of seems nice, and I haven't gotten hurt."

"See? I told you."

"Ok I have a question for you," I said, stopping to rest for a second.

"What? You tired?"

"No... um... Why do you seem really happy?"

"What do you mean?"

"When you met me after the last class, you were smiling. And you still are. You keep looking at your phone too."

"Oh... well um... I got asked out," he said, smiling even bigger and blushing.

"Oh... I've never had a girlfriend before. Have you?"

"Nope. That's why I'm kind of excited. I've sort of liked her for a few years now."

"What's her name?"

"Mikayla."

"Does she have brown hair?"

"Yeah."

"She's in my english."

"Lucky... The only class I have with her is economics."

"So are you like going out on a date?"

"Yeah. We're going out tomorrow night. Oh and mom texted me. She's getting you a phone and a laptop."

"Cool."

We made it home, and Riker helped me up the stairs. I got in bed, and started on my homework. Riker and I did our homework together. Although I was doing most of the work. He kept goofing off, and rolling around on the bed, groaning about how he hates homework.

The next day...

Riker POV

I was super duper excited about my date with Mikayla. First date ever!

We were home from school. Jeff seemed to have had a good day, and this was like his first good day. He was still a little nervous, but he was much better. I think our talk a few days ago helped. Whenever he tells me about his past, I feel like he feels better because he's told someone, and he doesn't need to keep it to himself anymore. He was threatened not to tell anyone, and I feel like maybe he feels a sense of relief now.

"Hey so Mikayla is picking me up in like 20 minutes. Are you going to be ok here alone tonight?" I asked Jeff.

"I think so... Rydel said I could call her if I needed anything since she's right across the hall. And I'm leaving the door open so she can hear me."

"Ok, good. I don't know what time I'll be back. We're going out for dinner, and I don't know if we're doing anything after that. I told Rocky to help you down the stairs when it's time for dinner, so don't worry about that, ok?"

"Ok. Thanks, Riker."

Later...

Jeff POV

"Kids! Time for dinner!" Mom called.

I sat up. Rocky came in. I still didn't really know him, but he hadn't hurt me since I got here, and he was Riker's brother. Oh, and my brother, I suppose... So I trusted him a little.
