Chapter 12

Middle of the night...

Jeff POV

I woke up screaming from a nightmare. I felt someone touch my arm, and I screamed again.

"Jeff, it's just me. Calm down."

I recognized Riker's voice.

I broke into more tears.

"Hey, hey, hey. What's wrong?"

Riker pulled me into a hug.

"N-nightmare..."

"Nightmare? Ugh. I hate those... What was it about?"

"B-bullies..."

"Where?"

"S-school..."

"Oh..."

I was beginning to calm down. There was something about Riker that just felt so calming.

"You know you don't have to worry about that anymore, right? I'll protect you," Riker said, quietly.

I sighed, and leaned more of my weight against him.

"Hey. I got you. You're fine."

I got myself completely calm again, thanks to Riker. And I curled up in Riker's bed again. But I made Riker come a little bit closer so I felt safer. And somehow, I managed to get back to sleep.

Morning...

Riker POV

Things weren't really any different today, than they were yesterday. Jeff was still just as scared. It was a good thing we had first period together, otherwise I'd be afraid he'd just like... run out of the school or something.

It was sort of weird to me because our problems were different. I didn't really like school because I wasn't very good at it. Jeff was great at school, but he didn't like it because he was terrified of getting bullied. It's just weird because he's so similar to me, but we have different problems because of his past.

"Alright, pop quiz," our chemistry teacher said, handing out papers.

I was cringing inside. I knew the quiz was going to be on the lab we did yesterday and equations and stuff. But I didn't study it! I never knew we'd have a quiz! And I sort of copied Jeff's homework yesterday, so... I might be screwed...

There were only 5 questions, so if I mess up like 2 of them, I'm already down to a 60.

Jeff handed his paper in before me. I was only on the second question. I had no idea if I was making correct calculations, but... oh well...

I finished, and handed in my paper. And then we were told to work on some textbook questions.

At the end of the period, he handed our quizzes back. And then the bell rang. Jeff looked like he was about to pass out from stress. I tried to give him a reassuring smile as I left.

When I got to english, I had a minute to look at my quiz. And I felt my stomach drop. I got a 20. I got 1 out of 5 questions correct. And if you fail anything, you need to get it signed by a parent.

I'm so dead...

Later...

Jeff POV

I swear, every time Riker comes to meet me at my class, he scares me so bad.

We went to the cafeteria.
