Chapter 32
Middle of the night...
Riker POV
I woke up in tears. I'd had an awful dream where Jeff told me he didn't want to be my brother. And it made me scared that that'd come true.
I got up, and snuck out of the room. The light was on in the hall. I had no idea what time it was, but I just needed to get away for a little bit.
I found my way to the cafeteria. There was no one there, obviously. I sat down at one of the tables, and laid my head down. I'm upset and tired. And I just wish I was home.
Morning...
Riker POV
"Are you ok?"
I opened my eyes. There was a boy sitting next to me at one of the cafeteria tables. I rubbed my eyes a little. Everything was sort of blurry without my glasses or contacts in.
"You're Jeff's brother, right?"
"Yeah... Who are you?"
"My name's David. I'm one of the Warblers. Are you ok?"
"Uh... I just sort of had a rough night..."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"I guess so..."
"Ok."
I sighed.
"Well... I feel like Jeff doesn't care about me anymore. He's been so excited to come back here, and he acts like he doesn't even care about me anymore. He barely talked to me yesterday. And I've been taking care of him since he came to my house. I thought we were closer, but apparently not..."
"Riker, Jeff still totally cares about you. He's just excited to be visiting. Maybe you should talk to him about it."
I sighed.
"I don't know..."
"I think you should... Do you want some breakfast?"
I realized we were still in the cafeteria. It's probably breakfast time...
"I don't have any money."
"That's ok. I can pay."
"Are you sure? You don't have to do that."
"Nah, it's fine. Just relax. I'll be back in a minute."
Just as he said, he left and came back with some cereal for both of us. The cafeteria started filling up with more people for breakfast.
After I was finished eating, David brought me back to Nick's room. I was having trouble reading the dorm numbers.
I opened the door, and went inside. Jeff and Nick were sitting on Nick's bed, talking. And they both sort of froze and stared at me. I grabbed my glasses, and put them on.
"Was I interrupting something?" I asked, kind of annoyed.
"No," Jeff said, looking down.
"Well we have a plane to catch in a few hours, so..."
I started packing up my suitcase. Jeff and Nick both left the room, leaving me there alone.
Later...
Jeff POV
Nick wanted me to come somewhere with him before Riker and I left. We were following him down the halls of Dalton. I didn't know where he was taking me.
We came to a door, and he let us in. All the Warblers were there, and they screamed 'surprise' when we walked in.
They had a cake for me.
I was sort of chatting with everyone when I saw Riker walk out. I excused myself, and ran out the door after him. He was already halfway down the hall.
"Riker, wait up!"
He kept walking, so I had to run to catch up with him. I grabbed his hand, and made him stop.
"Riker, what's wrong?"
"Nothing."
"Where are you going?"
"Jeff... We have a plane to catch in an hour. I'm going to make sure we're all ready to go."
"Riker, we're already packed up and stuff. Let's go enjoy the party!"
"No. You go. I'll be waiting for you when it's time to leave."
"But Riker-"
"No. Go have fun."
Riker walked away, leaving me sort of frozen there.
"Jeff, are you coming back?" Nick called down the hallway.
"Yeah. I'm coming."
I walked back to the party.
Riker POV
I sat on a bench outside. It was cloudy and cold out. I didn't really have a jacket. All I had was a sweatshirt, and I was sort of cold. I was sitting with both of our suitcases, waiting.
Stupid Jeff and his stupid friends. They barely know him, and somehow they're all better than me, in Jeff's eyes. I don't understand it. Who took care of him? I did. Maybe they talked to him, but I protected him. And this is what I get in return?
Unbelievable.
A/N : So... I found out that apparently, I have to read 12 chapters of a book by Wednesday... That's pretty much impossible. But if I don't update much, I'm reading a boring book so I don't fail my english class. Also, I will be starting a book about me sometime soon. It will probably be called something like "My Story" and I don't know when it'll be out, but I will let you know. It's mostly about things that I've learned from life, but it'll take some time because I can't just sit down and write it, which is what I do with my other stories. I need to plan everything out, which will take some time. It will definitely be a slow moving book, but the chapters will be longer.
