Chapter 24

Later...

Riker POV

"You're positive you're ok?" I asked Jeff.

"Riker. I'm fine. Stop asking."

"Then why do you seem like you're acting weird!? What happened while I was at the guidance office?"

"Fine... I'll tell you."

"Ok, good."

"I sort of... got a girlfriend."

"Oh, really? That's cool. Now we both have girlfriends."

"Wait. Did you talk to Mikayla?"

"Yeah. I explained everything, and we're still cool. We actually have another date planned for Friday night. Hey you should come with your girlfriend and we could do a double date!"

"Where are you and Mikayla going?"

"Well since it's fall, we're going apple picking, and then out to some restaurant that's nearby."

"Alright, well I'll see..."

"What's her name?"

"Sophia."

"Oh... I don't think I've ever met her..."

"She's in my english and economics class, which you're not in."

"Oh..."

"Yeah. It took me like 10 minutes to try to figure out how to put her number in my phone. I still don't really know how to use it. I've only had it for a little while."

"You'll get used to it. Phones are pretty easy to use."

"Yeah, maybe for you. You've had a phone for a while."

Jeff sat on his bed, which was actually still my bed.

"Are we ever going to switch beds back?" I asked.

"Nope. I like your bed."

"Alright. Follow up question... Are we ever going to push the beds apart?"

"No! I like having you next to me! It makes me feel better."

"Fine..."

The next day...

Riker POV

Jeff had left me all alone in study hall and lunch because apparently his new girlfriend wanted to talk to him. For 2 whole entire periods. Like what the heck?

I went to economics, wondering why it took so long to talk to her...

When class was over, I went to meet him at his economics class, but he wasn't there. I was so confused.

I looked around for him for a little while, but I didn't see him, so I walked home. He wasn't there either.

I was actually starting to worry a little. I mean, Jeff is really clingy to me. And the fact that I haven't seen him in a few hours worries me. The guy won't even let me sleep more than a few feet away from him! How is he off somewhere without me!?

I worked on my homework, trying to get my mind off of everything. But I didn't get very far. Jeff and I usually do our homework together, and I still didn't understand all this calculus stuff...

I heard my siblings finally getting home. Rydel came in the room with her arm around Jeff.

"Look who I found?" Rydel asked.

Jeff was staring at the floor.

"Where was he? What happened?"

"He was at the nurse. Apparently he fell down the stairs. He's fine."

"How'd you find him?"

"Some kid in my class threw up, and I had to take them and their stuff down to the nurse, and I saw Jeff there."

"Oh... Well thanks for taking him home."

Rydel left, shutting the door behind her.

"Hey. You ok?"

He nodded.

"Well come here."

He climbed onto his bed. I wrapped my arms loosely around him.

"You sure you're ok?"

"I'm fine, Riker."

"You don't sound fine."

"I am."

I sighed.

"Alright... Well... Do you want to do some homework together?"

"Fine..."

Later...

Riker POV

When we went downstairs for dinner, I noticed Jeff was limping. I knew he fell down the stairs but... Well I've fallen down the stairs before, and I've never hurt myself that bad.

Anyways, I kept my eye on him all night. He seemed like he was in pain. I kept asking him if he was alright, but he kept saying he was fine. So I stopped asking.

I took a shower, and when I came out, Jeff was curled up in bed. And he was wearing one of my sweatshirts that I let him borrow.

I got into my bed, and looked at him.

"You sure you're ok?"

"I'm fine, Riker! Quit asking!"

"Ok, ok. Sorry... Ready for bed?"

"Yeah."

I shut off the light.

"Night, Jeff."

The next day...

Riker POV

Calculus class had just ended. Jeff was still acting sort of strange.

"Ready for study hall?" I asked, packing up my books in my bag.

"Um... I-I have t-to go t-to the b-bathroom. I-I'll m-meet you t-there in a l-little bit."

He's stuttering. That's not good.

"Are you sure?" I asked.

"Yeah."

Jeff quickly left. I went to the senior lounge, wondering about Jeff. Something just doesn't seem right, but I have no idea what it is...

Later...

Riker POV

Jeff never met me in the senior lounge. So he never had lunch. Luckily, when economics was over, I met him outside his class, and he wasn't missing like he was yesterday.

"Ready to go home?" I asked.

"Yeah..."

We walked home. Jeff was still limping, and it was worse than yesterday.

When we got up to our room, I decided to question him.

"Jeff?"

"What?"

"Do you think you came off of crutches too soon?"

"No. Why?"

"You're limping."

"No, I'm not."

"Yeah, you are. You were doing it last night and today."

"I'm fine, Riker."

"No, you're not, Jeff!"

"Yes, I am!"

"Jeff-"

He ran out of the room, and I heard him slam the bathroom door shut, probably locking me out. I sighed. I honestly don't even have a guess of what's wrong...
