Chapter 11

Kaneki POV

I couldn't put the folder down, no matter how hard I tried I just kept rereading the folder. The information perfectly detailed about everything single thing. I kept flipping through the pages (Y/N) name appearing multiple times on a page. "(Y/N)" I whispered her name. I leaned my head onto the arm rest on the couch. A light knock drew my attention away from the file. "Kaneki? Tatara wanted me to give this to you are you here?" a females voice echoed through the door into the room. I stood up and went to the door. Opening it seeing Mrs. (L/N) in her hand was a small black box. "Why didn't he send someone-" I began trying to figured out how I should reword my next words. "grunts?" Mrs. (L/N) suggested raising her eye brow. I nodded "Oh relax I just wanted to make sure you got this box. Who can trust anyone around here? especially a grunt" she laughed tossing her light (H/C) hair over her shoulder. I glared at her. I remember how coldly (Y/N) felt about her mother. Gave me the impression I should keep my guard up around her. Yet again I've always kept my guard up around this place. "What's that face for? what you don't trust me? did my sweet daughter say something rude about me? Oh don't listen to her...she never was right in the head anyways." I clenched my fist at her insult on her daughter. "I believe miss (Y/N) is just fine, mam. You shouldn't talk ill about your own child." I spoke quietly, not yet grabbing the box. "Ha" Mrs. (L/N) eyes went cold "Don't tell me how I should talk about my own child. I birthed her, raised, her, gave her food, clothes, shelter, and you know how she repays me. She leaves. Quits. Disappears. Then she gets caught by CCG. Putting her kagune in danger! My husband and I...and Aogiri put lots of money into that girl. She could of ruined and thrown away all that money. So don't act like I'm the bad guy." I just stared at her. A hateful feeling growing deep within me. A woman so evil like this, its amazing (Y/N) made it out alive. "Its a pity though. You must know by now. I had two daughters (Y/N) and my youngest Natsumi. Poor thing she didn't make it." Kaneki clenched his fist again. "I think you should leave Mrs. (L/N)" I spoke with coldness in my voice hoping she would get the hint to leave. "Well okay whatever you say dear. Here this is for you." She says with a smile and pushes the box into me hands, then turns away but before I could shut the door. "Did you ever ask why we aren't helping (Y/N)?" she asked turning her face so I could only see her dark (E/C). "No" I replied getting annoyed. "Its because this is a test as well. I am very excited to see how it goes. It has been so so long since I have seen my daughter in action...Cheers!" and with that Mrs. (L/N) walked away the sound of her heals clinking on the hard floor. I shut the door and as I turn a memory I buried deep down came to light making me freeze.

Flashback

"Mom!" younger me chirped as my mother came in through the from door "I know this is sudden but I saw this really awesome book on my way home! Could we get it sometime?" Younger me asked excited about the book I had saw. My moms smile slowly turned into a frown. "Why do you even deserve it?" "huh?" her words put me off for a moment till the noise of a cold slap filled the air. "Why? why? why?" my mother continued to slap me. "I'm sorry! I...I promise I wont ask..." slap "Please stop hitting me mom! I pro-" slap "I promise I wont ask for anything! I wont pester you about it!"

Flashback over

I clenched my fist. I loved my mother. But deep down I felt resentment towards her. I collapsed onto the couch once again and toss the box away not wanting anything to deal with it. Is this how you feel towards your mother (Y/N)? I let out a small breath then looked up at the ceiling. We really aren't that different are we? "What in names was that!" I remembered (Y/N) shout at me from the last mission we had done together. She was ticked off but not because I put her life in danger but because I put her friends lives in danger. "Your different Kaneki I hope you know that" she told me I was different. She even asked why I stopped studying Japanese literature. "My name is (Y/N) (L/N) nice to meet you" when she wanted to start over for some reason that really impacted me. I laugh to myself quietly. Everything I have done till now was to protect everyone. Touka, Hinami, Hide, Anteiku, and now...(Y/N)...she reminds me so much of someone who keeps going even when bad happens over and over and over again to them. She is one strong ghoul. Someone one you might read about in history books or of a Stephen King novel. She is very extraordinary. I sigh then look out the small dirty window. "I wont let anything happen to you or your team (Y/N) I promise you" I promise even though I knew she didn't hear my promise. I then noticed that the box had opened. My eyes caught a few words of the paper inside it.  I felt rigid and stood up, grabbed the boxes insides and headed out. 

At Haku's home:

Haku was cleaning the floors, when a knock came from the main door.  Some ghouls peaked their heads into the halls look at Haku with worry. Haku waved them back.  He made his way and opened the door.  "Ah...Eto" There Eto stood.  "Hello Haku, lets talk".

Your POV

Everyone was preparing for tonight. You had your clothes lined up on your bed. "This is it then" you whisper to yourself. Ring, ring, ring, ring. You pick up your cell, your eyes widening. "Haku!" you say with a hint of excitement in your voice. "Hello (Y/N)" his voice sounded tired. "I haven't heard from you...well since we left how is everything? how is everyone? how are you?" you ask a whole bunch of questions. You hear Haku laugh. "Oh my dear everything and everyone is fine. I am well. How are you? and are you on your way back yet?" he asked You sighed and shook your head knowing he couldn't see you. "I am...doing okay as well I guess...no we aren't on our way back." You go quiet. "Haku...tonight is the final mission." You explain to him everything how you met your mother again and how CCG is becoming more powerful with these new armored suits of theirs.

"I see." Haku whispers. "Well...Please be careful. How is Shin, Yun, and Satoko?" "annoying" you quickly say. "Hahaha I knew they would be." "And you gave them to me old man?" you hiss. "I'm gonna kill ye" you threaten, making Haku laugh even more, which brought a small smile on your face. "I'm glad your okay" you said quietly. "I'm glad your all alive and well. Please be careful tonight. If the mission looks...to difficult. I want you to get out of there." Haku said with concern in his voice. "But what about you and the others?! You know I can't leave my team and you know what Aogiri will do to you and everyone. No I wont allow that" you demand clenching your fist. "We will deal with it. we always have and always will" Haku said trying to reassure you. You let out another sigh. "You should stop sighing. Its bad for that lovely voice of yours." "Shut up" you mumble. "I'll talk to you later (Y/N) be safe" Haku said. "goodbye..." you whisper and hang up the phone. 

The time was quickly passing, bringing tonight sooner. "This is it. Our final mission." you huff then begin changing into the clothes you had bought earlier. Deep down you felt that saying goodbye to Haku was going to be the last time you heard his voice. You didn't believe it,  your team was going to make it out alive that night.
