"Hey Michael. It's me, Carrie."
"Hey. Why are you calling so early?"
His voice cracked as if he just woke up.
"I wanted to talk."
"Okay," He said tentatively.
"Well remember how I told you about Kian and I?"
"Yeah." He groaned.
"Well we got into a fight yesterday..."
"And?" He said slightly happier.
"And what we fought over, was-was you."
Silence.
"Why?"
"Because I told him what you said, and he thought that I liked you now or something."
"Do you?" My heart sank.
"I-I don't...I don't know... But I can't. I can't lose my best friend."
"Why are you telling me this?" He asked, agitated.
"I don't know...because I need to talk to someone."
"But why me? Why not a girl friend or something?"
"Michael stop." I took a deep breath.
"I gotta go."
"Wait-"
He hung up.
I sighed and heard a knock on the door. Before I knew what I was doing, I shouted,
"Kian?" I ran to the door and found Kristina.
"I'm sorry I couldn't make it earlier." She hugged me tight.
"It's fine. Come in." I sighed unhappy it wasn't Kian, but still grateful for Kristina.
"So who are you dating? Have you decided yet?"
"Actually, yes. I chose-" there was a loud knock on the door.
I walked to the front door and opened it. Kian stood before me, watery eyed and holding his pennyboard.
"Can I come in?" I nodded, afraid of what's coming next.
"Look Carrie, I don't care how you feel about Michael. All I know is that we belong together. We may fight a lot but we always find a way to make up. I know you like the back of my hand, and you me. And I can't loose you again."
Our lips made contact and chills ran down my spine.
I wrapped my arms around him and embraced him with all my might. I began crying as well.
"Does this mean you're back together?" Kristina squealed, interrupting us. Kian and I looked at each other and smirked.
"I think so."
***************
Kian and I were laying on his bed in his room watching Malcolm in the Middle. He kissed the tip of my nose.
"Kian it's almost Christmas..."
"And?" He asked.
"I'm going back to New York to see my family-"
"What? No! You can't leave!" He reached for my hand, squeezing it.
"You didn't let me finish." I stated.
"I want you to come with me, Kian. You can meet my parents."
"They already know me." He stated.
"I know, but it will be meeting my boyfriend, not my best friend."
He thought about it for a second, then said, "Yeah. I'll come. Your parents love me. I don't want you to be across the country from me. Some guy might sweep you off your feet when I'm not around."
He wrapped me in his big muscular arms protectively.
He kissed me softly. He then paused a second and pulled back.
"What?"
"I want to see this part. It's funny." He was right.
Malcolm and Dewey had bet Reese to walk across the street naked and ring their neighbors doorbell for ten dollars. He wound up doing it, but only had frying pans over his ya-know-what's.
He burst out laughing and turned towards me.
"Okay, so who's your favorite character?"
"Reese."
"Why?"
I shrugged.
"You think he's hot don't you?"
I shrugged again, smirking.
"He is totally hot!" I argued.
"Hotter than me?" He teased. I gave him a look and playfully slapped his arm.
"You know I'd always choose you. Besides, he's like thirty now! And you think Emma Stone is hot!" I shouted jokingly.
"You know there is no competition there." I looked into his eyes and found a sincere gaze in them.
"You know I don't like him more than you. I liked the younger him, and he doesn't even exist anymore. I like you. No one else. Not Michael. Not Reese. You." He squeezed me tight and I felt same and warm in his arms.
"Hey, you wanna go to the beach?"
"Now?! It's three in the morning!"
"So?"
"Okay, sure. Why not?"
We got up and grabbed out penny boards. The beach is only about five minutes from Kian's house, so we got there quickly. We walked down the beach with our backs to the moon.
He held my hand the entire time, refusing to let go.
