"So I was talking with Emily, and she was like-" Nichola started, being interrupted by Jack.
"Yes okay, but it's getting uncomfortable in here, can we uh, can we go for a walk?" He asked nervously. He was finally going to do it today. He was going to ask her out, for in the 9 years they had known eachother he had managed to fall for her.
"Uh, sure?" She replied, answering more in a question form, being confused by Jack's awkward actions. She knew he was awkward in general, she was his best friend, but she had never seen him like this.
They walked out of her house into the street, Jack leading the two of them. Not a single word was spoken, and the quietness was unnerving and awkward between the two.
"So, um, what about that weather?" Jack joked, nudging his crush lightly. He didn't want her to feel uncomfortable, especially the fact that he wanted her to be his.
"Jack what the hell is this about?" She sighed frustratedly. She had no clue what was going on. Truth be told, she was nervous as well. A certain girl had liked him since she was little, and that little girl was Nichola Astherbe.
He nervously sighed, pulling his hat off. He ran his hands through his hair before throwing the hat to the ground.
"Damn it, Nichola! Are you blind? Can't you see everything?!" He screamed facing the sky. It seemed as though he was screaming to no one in particular, but in fact he was screaming at the girl who he had hopelessly fallen for.
"What Jack?! What the fuck are you talking about?!" She cried in frustration, pulling at the ends of her hair. She was so confused. He couldn't possible love her, could he? He always mentioned that he liked a special girl, could it be her? No, she thought. She was so plain. Her brown waved hair, reaching down to her navel, her bambi brown eyes held nothing special, and her tan skin was one among quite a lot of the American population.
"I like you, okay?! No wait- I love you! I love the way your eyes crinkle when you smile, I love your laugh and how you never laugh the same twice, I love how you only have one dimple on your left cheek! I love the way you hate the colour pink unless it's for your nails, I love the way you have an obsession with duct tape, I love everything about that but I hate how you can't see that!" He screamed, aggressively kicking over a garbage can. A frustrated and loud groan escaped his lips as he tugged on his short hair.
She was speechless. She couldn't talk. So she was the special one? So she was the one he talked about all the time? She couldn't believe it.
As the silence over came them, Jack got more and more worried. He had just ruined their friendship. He tried to contain his emotions, but a single tear paved it's way down his cheek. He looked at her one last time, but not expecting what she was about to say.
"Cream cheese." She said, laughing lightly. "I love you too, Jack." She muttered with a delicate smile.
He sighed in relief, his own smile coming over his features. He knew how shy she was when it came to emotions and feelings, he had known her for 9 years.
And that was how Jack & Nichola came to be.

"Where are we going Jack?" Nichola giggled. It was their first date, and since they were both 15 and he couldn't drive, his mother was driving the two of them.
"Mom make a left here- no wait, at the next ligh- no wait here, or is it the next one- I-"
"For Pete sake, Jack! Make up your mind!" She laughed, watching her son's date in the back of the car blushing madly, laughing at the nervous boy.
Nichola found it hilarious and adorable that Jack was going to all this trouble, just for her, and how stressed it was making him. You could really tell that he wanted everything to be perfect, but Nichola didn't need perfect, she just wanted Jack.
"Nichola I'm so sorry, this isn't how this was supposed to happen, I just wanted it to be perfect and-" He started as he turned around in the passenger seat, staring at his girlfriend.
"Jack," she laughed, "it's alright." She finished, fluffing his hair lightly with her fingers. She knew how stressed he was, and ever since they were little, whenever he would be stressed she would run her fingers lightly through his hair.
"No it's not, it's all ruined and-"
"Jack. As long as you're here, it's perfect." She said truthfully, resting her hand on his cheek. She smiled kindly at him, hoping to calm his nerves.
"Don't be nervous, babe." She finished.
He sighed and smiled back, turning around and directing his mother once again, towards the lake as to where their first date would be held.
After ten or so minutes, an exasperated "We're here!" erupted from Jack's chapped lips.
And as the night went on, whispers and splashes occupied the lake bed and field, and even a kiss or two. He had been so stressed of the date, he was worried she'd hate the date, that something might happen, but nothing bad happened. She found it perfect, she had fallen so hard for him, that anything he did was perfect to her. He was perfect to her.
And that was Nichola and Jack's first date. The first of many.
