I walked through the house I had spent so many great years in, the house where we built our love.
"Nichola!" His voice boomed in the empty house.
"Just a second!" I yelled back, grabbing the last box. I smiled, remembering all the great times in this home.
I walked down the old wooden stairs and towards the door, sighing. His face popped around the corner with a bright-toothed smile.
"Ready to go?" He asked, taking the box from my hands (much to my dismay).
"Yeah I guess." I replied, closing the door behind us as we walked down the driveway, him putting the last box into the UHAUL. He got in the driver's seat and I got into the passenger's seat. This was a big step - for the both of us. The first house we'd own together.
We drove down many roads and through many towns until we finally got to the place I had dreamed of since I was younger; New York, New York. Of course, he wanted to live in Los Angeles or somewhere warmer, but I knew deep in my heart NY was where our lives needed to be spent in.
I fell asleep in the passenger side seat, dreaming of random things as I usually tend to do. The cold autumn air was broken by the heating in the truck, making a cosy atmosphere for sleep and comfort.
A light shaking on my shoulder awakened me, pulling me back to consciousness. "Nich, Nich wake up."
"Wah?" I mumbled sleepily, tossing and turning in the restricted space.
"Babe, we're here. We're in New York." He said, a light laugh briefing his lips.
I jolted awake, looking out the window as the leaves fell from the red and orange trees, beautiful brick houses and a park lining the street. An old man and a young boy were running amuck on the sidewalk, causing a smile to appear on my face.
"We're here!" I exclaimed, pulling him in for a hug across the controls. My arms wound around his neck tightly, a small laugh (or cry I really don't know) burst from my lips, his arms equally as tight around my waist.
"Thank you so much, Jack." I cried into his neck, kissing it briefly before looking at the scenery behind him. A beautiful red brick house stood tall and proud, the "for sale" sign crossed out with bolded SOLD across it.
As soon as we pulled away I jumped out of the truck, running up the concrete stairs of the- our new house. Solid wooden floors skimmed every room, beautiful archways and wood details lined the perimeters. It's amazing.
I ran up the stairs onto the second floor; it looked exactly like the main floor, but with huge open windows in the main bedroom, and I just- it's my dream. My dreams are finally coming true.
I heard footsteps walking up the wooden floors, and there he was. Clad in light baggy jeans and a light grey hoodie, black sunglasses placed upon his mess of hair. His hands were in his pockets as he strolled around the master bedroom, smiling at the room.
"You like it?" He laughed, pulling me to him by the waist. I looked up at him with big eyes and a swooning heart, a laugh gracing my lips.
"I love it, and I love you." I said, touching his lips with mine. My hands rested on his chest and played with the strings of his hoodie, a smile permanently set on my face.
"I love you more." He replied, kissing my forehead before I snuggled into his chest. We stayed like that for a couple of minutes, the cold air rushing in from the window.
We broke apart when a mover came up the stairs, a couple boxes and pillows in tow.
This is a new life. No more secrets and heartbreak. This is our new life. Not Jack, and Nichola. It's Jack and Nichola's life together. I'm so happy I get to spend the rest of my life with him.
