INGREDIENTS
Chana dal- 3 cups
Milk- 2 cups
Sugar-1 1/2 cups (add or less sugar according to your taste)
Condensed milk- 250 gms
Cardamon powder- 1 pinch
Chopped cashews- 1 tbsp
Chopped almonds- 1 tbsp
Ghee- 2 tbsp
Colour powder for flavourSTEPS:
STEP 1: Clean, wash and soak the chana dal in enough water in a bowl for at least 2 hours .Drain well and cook boil them and cook till they become soft(For quick method, pressure cook the daal till it becomes soft.)
STEP 2: Once it gets cooled, grind the chana daal with the milk to a smooth paste in a mixer and keep it aside. In a mixer, grind chopped almonds and cashew nuts till it becomes a paste.
STEP 3: Heat the ghee in a non-stick pot, put the grinded dal and add the sugar. Cook it on a low flame. You should keep on stirring, to avoid the halwa to get stuck in the pan and burn. This may takes upto 30-40 minutes or until the halwa has become almost thick in consistency.
STEP 4: Add the condensed milk, the grinded paste, cardamon powder and colour powder.Mix well and continue stirring till you will see that the halwa has become one mass, and you will also notice that the halwa is leaving the sides of the pan. This shows that the halwa is ready.
