Harry had wandered the length of the train up and down several times now, stopping short of the end, to avoid running into Ginny or Dean. He wasn't paying attention to his surroundings but he sensed the eyes the almost bore holes into him as he passed each cabin slowly. Each face he passed that was trained on him was either filled with disgust, wonder or hunger. He ignored each one and for the first time in a long, long time didn't feel even the slightest bit of self consciousness, right now he had no one to confide in, but he also didn't have anyone to please, no strings attached. Now single, he didn't have the weight of being in a relationship, something he didn't realise was burdening him until it was gone.
"Harry!" A voice squealed from far behind him, he distantly connected that voice to Luna. As he turned around Harry was brought into a hug by the blond girl. They stood like that for several minuets, both relishing the presence of a friend. When Harry and Luna separated, Harry stood back to take a look at Luna. She had grown slightly since they last saw each other, but that wasn't what was important. The Daily Prophet had had been raving on about the Neville Longbottom growing up into "A strapping young wizard with a torturous past" Authored by Rita Skeeter of course. It was quite frightening actually, how Neville was seemingly getting more attention by Skeeter than even he had been cursed with. But Harry never saw how this was so fascinating, but now Harry saw this from another perspective.
Luna almost looked part Veela, but softer around the edges. Her eyes were a brighter blue than before, and they still held the same innocence, but they also seemed to hold knowledge of what the world held in its darkest corners. Her hair, which seemed to glow silvery gold, was longer than before. The locks fell to the back of her mid-thigh, and seemed to slightly sway, smoothly and as one, not unlike a mermaids hair underwater. Luna was radiating beauty.
But as stunning as Luna now was, and how nearly any man would fall to her feet. All Harry saw was the socially awkward, wise, slightly strange girl who Harry regretted the most getting sucked up by the dark Lords wrath. Although Luna wasn't as close to Harry as Ron or Hermione, Luna was like the little sister that Harry never had. When Harry was first revealed to the wizarding world, all that he saw was a wonderful and beautiful world where there were always new secrets to be uncovered, and always something new to learn. This, to Harry, just about summed Luna up.
"Luna! How are you?" Harry asked as they started to pace to the cabin that Luna originated from
"Oh, I'm fine Harry, My Father has been training me so that when I leave I can work for him, I'm going to have my own writing column in the Quibbler Harry!" Luna burst out, as if had been dying to tell someone for a while.
"That's great!" Harry replied, genuinely happy that Luna would be able to work in something that she so loved. "Do you mind telling, what are you going to be writing about?" Harry continued.
"My father asked me to write about strange creatures and how to spot them?"
"Oh, so.. like... nargles and stuff" Harry said, trying to sound half competent in Luna's company.
"Oh, actually exactly like that Harry" Luna said rather excitedly. And a small part of Harry was saddened knowing that Luna was so used to being ridiculed that just someone listening to her excited her. By this point Harry and Luna had reached the compartment doors and were about to sit down.
"Luna, why weren't you sitting with Neville?" Harry asked rather cautiously. "Oh, didn't you hear? Neville didn't feel the need to continue his education. He's becoming a carer for the mentally ill." Luna said this rather proudly of his achievements. "I just hope that he didn't leave because of me. I had to let him down gently..." Luna trailed off.
"Oh, so who actually is coming back to Hogwarts?" Harry enquired, not sure how to reply to the split between the still two.
"Well so far I've seen Lavender Brown, Parvarti Patil..." Luna went on to list a few other students.
