We entered the Cerulean Gym with more confidence than ever before. Eevee was in her usual place on top of my hat and Vulpix retired to it's PokéBall until it was time to shine. The gym was basically an indoor swimming pool. Misty was sitting atop a quartz pedestal, as if it were a throne, waiting for the next challenger to enter. She heard the gym doors open, and gracefully dived straight into the pool, swimming up to me to greet welcome the new challenger. "Welcome to the Cerulean City Gym!" she said getting out of the water. She didn't see who entered. "I'm Misty, Leader o-" she said, but stopped when she realised it was me. "Sorry," she said. "The Cerulean City gym is closed." she told me, pushing me out of the gym. "Hey! Hang on a second. The gym isn't closed. I'm a trainer, and I challenge you for the Cascade Badge. As a gym leader, you're supposed to accept my challenge." I said. She stopped pushing me. "Look, I don't want to talk to you." she said. "Simple, don't talk, battle." I said. "Forget about what happened, and just let me try get this badge. That's all I'm here for mate." I told her. She sighed, "Fine, lets get this under way then." she said. The swimming pool dried out, revealing a hidden battlefield underneath the water.

"Go! Staryu!" Misty said, sending out her first Pokémon. A small orange starfish Pokémon appeared. "Ok then, I'll start with Vulpix! Go!" I tossed the Ultra ball out onto the feld and the little fire fox Pokémon emerged. "HAHAHA!" Misty laughed. "A fire type Pokémon in a water type gym!? No wonnder you aren't lucky with girls. You're stupid!" she mocked. I ignored it, and ordered Vulpix to attack. "Extrasensory!" Vulpix focuse it's gaze on Staryu and hit the Pokémon with a wave of energy. Staryu got knocked back just a little. "Pfft. Weak. Staryu, use Water Gun!" she said. A jet of water fired from the top of Staryu's body and fired straight at Vulpix. Before we could react, Vulpix took the whole attack. It was powerful, but Vulpix didn't give in. "Ok Vulpix, ready to go again?" I asked it. Vulpix nodded. "Vulpix! Use Extrasensory!" Vulpix once more focused it gaze on the Staryu, fired the beam of energy, but this time Staryu avoided the attack. "Too easy." Misty said. I groaned. "Water Gun!" she ordered her Pokémon. Already weakened from the previous attack, Vulpix was ko'd by the Water Gun easily. "Vulpix get back!" I said, returning to the PokéBall. I sighed, Misty still had two Pokémon, and I only had Eevee. I knew Eevee was powerful, but could it win 2 V 1? "Eevee, let's do it!" I said. Eevee hopped down from my cap, her fur sparkling as she entered the battle. "Don't think a Shiny Pokémon is gonna help you win." Misty said mockingly. "Eevee, Tackle it. Go!" I told Eevee. Eevee slammed into the Staryu with a immense power, unexpectedly taking the Pokémon out. "Hmph, your Vulpix weakened it, your Eevee isn't that strong." she said, clearly surprised. "Go on Starmie!" she said, calling out her final Pokémon. Staryu's monstrous evolved form looked very threatening, and a clear powerhouse. "Let's prove that now. Your Eevee won't even be able land a hit on Starmie." she said with so much confidence. Perhaps too much. "Eevee, Swift!" Eevee fired five spinning stars straight at Starmie. It looked as though they'd hit, when all off a sudden, "Starmie, Protect!" Misty ordered. Starmie summoned a wall to reflect the stars, firing them back at Eevee. Eevee took heavy damage from that hit. "Eevee. You ok?" Eevee got up as if nothing hit it. "That's the spirit, all right, if swift wont work, go for Tackle!" I figured that Eevee's best attack would surely do something. Eevee charged at the Pokémon just as it was going to make contact, Misty once again ordered Starmie to use Protect. The wall held Eevee off and took the entire attack. "Looks like Eevee can't land a hit." Misty called out. I had to think of a way around it. "Eevee Sand-Attack!" I ordered it. Once again, Protect blocked the attack. What were we gonna do? Suddenly the door opened. "Hey, we're in the middle of a battle, come back later." Misty said. I turned and to my surprise it was Leaf. "I'm not here for a battle Misty, I'm here to cheer on my friend." she said in response. "Friend? Ok." Misty said back. "Leaf? Why are you here?" I asked. "Eh, saw you were here, and dropped in." she replied. "Ok, thanks Leaf!" I said. "Hey you two done? We've got a battle to finish." Misty said impatiently. "Eevee, use Tackle again!" I ordered. Misty sighed "You don't learn do you? Starmie, Protect!" Attack after attack was blocked by Protect, and it was tiring both me and Eevee out. We had to figure something out or we'd be at a loss. "Hey!" Leaf called out. "Misty." Misty looked over at her. "What?" she asked. "Aren't challenger allowed to heal their current Pokémon?" she asked Misty. "Uhh..." Misty said. "In that case," Leaf said, walking over to us. "Here." She said, handing me a water bottle. "You two look exhausted." she said.I smiled, accepting the bottle, "Thanks Leaf!" I said. She left us to go back and spectate. "Eevee, here!" I called my Pokémon over. As she drank some of the water I told her quietly, "Eevee, whenever you see Protect come up, go around it, it's our best option, ok?" Eevee nodded. "Ok, Misty, let's continue!" I said. "Urgh finally." Misty said annoyed. I turned my cap backwards. "Eevee, Tackle!" Eevee charged at the Starmie. Misty fake-yawned "Starmie, Protect." she lazily ordered. I waited. And just as the wall came up, I said, "NOW!" Eevee leapt over the Pokémon, turned and charged right into it from behind, knocking it over with tremendous force. "WHAT!?" Misty said, clearly shocked. "Eevee won't even land a hit huh?" I said. "Eevee! Swift!" I called out. "Starmie Protect!" Misty ordered, but now of all times, Protect failed, Swift landed, and KO'd the Starmie. "YES!" Leaf shouted cheering. "S-Starmie, return." Misty said with her eyes widened. "Eevee, we won! We did it!" I cheered as my Pokémon jumped into my arms. "Yeah, whatever, here." Misty said, throwing the badge at us. I quickly caught it. "Umm, thanks Misty!" I said. "You ot what you wanted, now get out." she said.

Outside, me and Eevee, and our now fully healed Vulpix headed off for Route 5 and Rock Tunnel.  "Hey you!" Leaf called out to us. I turned back to see she was running over to us. "Oh hi Leaf, thanks for cheering us on back there." I told her. "Yeah, no problem." She said. "Anyways, what do you want?" I asked her. "You're headed to Vermilion now right?" she said. "Oh, yes we are. I get it. *sigh* I guess this is farewell then?" I said, sadly. "Yeah...." she replied looking down. I held her hands. "Hey, don't look down. We'll meet each other again. Don't worry." I told her. She looked back up at me. "I know, but seeing you again after so long. I. I didn't want to lose you again." she said. I hugged her. "Don't worry. I won't forget you." I told her. "Ok. Well. Bye Cody! Stay safe." she said, returning the hug. I let her go, nd we parted ways. Me, onto Vermilion, and her back ro Route 24. It was good seeing her again.

After making it through Rock Tunnel, I realized we'd gone the wrong way, and ended up i Lavender Town. I looked at our map and saw Vermilion wasn't too far from here anyway, and so stuck to the route ahead of us. "Hey! Cody!" I heard a voice call out. I turned and saw someone familiar. "Huh? It's you." I said. "C-can I come with you? On your journey?" they said.
