Chapter 15: Shocking Battles await!

Vermilion Gym. Home to the agile and powerful electric type Pokemon and Kanto's Electric master, Lt. Surge. I was ready, but didn't feel up to it. But I had to do it. I needed to win the Thunder Badge. I sighed as I opened the gym doors. Eevee sighed too. We were both tired from all the training. But no matter how much we hated training, it had to be done. I was tired. I got no sleep the night before. And Eevee being the loyal Pokemon she was stayed up with me. "Hey Eevee. You think we'll get that badge today?" I said yawning. The little Pokemon yawned also and stopped to stretch it's legs. "I know." I said, as I yawned, my eyes drooping a little. "I-m not up to it either, but we have to get this badge Eevee." The Pokemon nodded and yawned again. "Ok then," I pushed the door open. "here we go." I said as we enter the gym.

 I see a whole bunch of trash cans dotted around the gym and I look to Eevee confused. I see a notice on the gym staute reading; "The puzzle ahead is test the wits of new challengers. Unlock the electric lock by finding two switches in the trash cans. However, fail to get them consecutively and the locks will change position." I chuckled. "A puzzle? How hard could it be?" I turn to the trash cans and let out a small grunt. "Ok lets find those switches." We find a switch quite easily, and flick it. An electric lock was opened! We head over to a can that is on the other side of the room, confident with our choice. But there was nothing there. The electric locks were reset! "Darn it." I said, heading back to the first one, only to find it isn't there. "Huh? What's going on?" I scratched my head in confusion. "Where'd it go?" I clearly didn't quite read the whole sign. A few minutes passed and we found the first switch again, and immediately activated it. This time I decided to look in a trash can that was a bit closer. But alas, there was nothing. I got frustrated and searched for the switch again. After about an hour of searching and failing I was going to give up when the entrance doors opened and Leaf walked in. "Leaf?" I said in surprise. "Hiya Cody." she replied. "What are you doing here?" I asked.  "I knew you'd come here after our battle yesterday, so I came to ee your battle." she replied. "I don't think there'll be a battle today Leaf. We can't even beat the puzzle." I said shaking my head. She touched my shoulder, telling me not to worry. "Thanks Leaf." I said in reply. I call to Eevee. "Come on girl, we're taking one more shot at this." Eevee looked excited.

We took no time in finding the first lock again. "Ok, Cody. Concentrate." I told myself. Leaf was there, Eevee was there, I was surely going to get it this time. I was going to check the other side of the room when an idea popped into my head. I checked the trash can directly next to the one that had a switch in it and sure enough, the last switch was there. *Click!* The electric doors unlocked! "YES!" I shouted. Eevee hopped up onto my shoulder as I made my way to the doors, and Leaf closely followed. 

Behind the doors was a massive arena that looked like a electrical circuit. On the opposite side of the battlefield was a young man dressed in a white shirt with jeans sporting a small afro. I walked up to him. "Are you Lt. Surge?" I asked him. He shook his head. "I am not. I am Bradley. The new Vermillion Gym Leader. You're the new challenger? Ok then," he yawns. "lets get this over with."

We stand on either side of the battlefield, ready for the battle. "Battle start!" Gym Leader Bradley calls out. "Go, Rapidash." He sends out a fire-type horse Pokemon, who sent embers flying as it appeared. "A fire type?" I said in shock. "Yeah. What were you expecting?" Bradley replied. I groan a little. "Go on Vulpix!" The orange fox Pokemon makes its way to the battle field. "All right then, Rapidash, use Double Kick!" Bradley says. "Vulpix, use Growl!" I ordered. Rapidash charged at Vulpix as Vulpix, in return, stood it's ground and let out a loud growl. Rapidash ignored the growl and hit Vulpix twice. Vulpix winced but shook off the attack. "Vulpix. use Extrasensory!" Vulpix closed it's eyes and concentrated. "Rapidash go for another Double Kick." Bradley called out calmly. Rapidash charged at Vulpix again. Vulpix quickly opened it's eyes which were now glowing purple, as it hit Rapidash with a psychic attack that knocked it back quite far. "Vulpix hit it with Tackle now." I ordered and the fox Pokemon slammed right into the Rapidash. It collapsed, unable to fight. "Oh? Rapidash, come back." Bradley said, raising aneyebrow. "Nice job you two!" Leaf called out. I smiled. "Ok enough fooling around." Bradley interupted. "Jolteon, go." he said, ever so calmly. Jolteon, an evolution of Eevee was our next opponent. Eevee pulled at my leg. I looked down.  "What is it?" I said. It signaled as if it wanted to fight. Nodding, I call back Vulpix, and Eevee took it's place. "Ok then Jolteon, Quick Attack!" Jolteon sped toward Eevee and as I tell Eevee to dodge, it gets hit with very little damage. "Eevee go with Sand-Attack!" Eevee's kicked sand towards the opposing Jolteon who looks around for a bit. "Eevee use Swift!" "Jolteon, you as well." Bradley called out. Both Pokemon unleash the move Swift and the attacks collide with a bright explosion. We both order for Swift again, and they collide once more. This time I order Eevee to use Tackle. The Jolteon easily avoided it and tried hitting a Pin Missile, the sand kicked in and it couldn't aim the attack properly. *This is it. We've got this.* I said to myself. "Eevee, get up close!" Eevee dashed up to the Jolteon. "Now, Last Resort!" Eevee glows while dashing at Jolteon. "Jolteon, just use Swift." The Swift attack interrupted Last Resort, and sent Eevee flying. "Eevee! Come on!" I yelled. Eevee quickly gets back up and once again charges at Jolteon, faster than before, and manages to hit before an attack was even called. "Return, I guess?" said Bradley. "Go, oh... wait. You won. Yeah." he said, surprised. "Come here then. Get your badge or whatever." he said. I happily accept the new badge, and thank him for the battle. Then me, Leaf and my Pokemon leave.

"Wow, congratulations Cody!" Leaf happily said, hugging me. "Haha, thanks Leaf." I reply. "I see you and Eevee trained hard after our fight. Last Resort was a shock to me." Leaf said. "Yeah we train- *yawn* -ed non-stop" I said, my eyes drooping. She giggled. "I can see." After that, we left for a motel so me and Eevee could get our much needed rest.
