Chapter 11---Expect The Unexpected

The day of the dance is here.

It's almost too hard to believe.

“Honey, have a good time tonight.”

“I will. Thanks, Mom,” I said and hung up the phone.

“Awe, talking to your Mom again?”

“Jade, what do you want?” I asked.

They walked into my room and observed my outfit.

“Wow. I guess someone's not going to the dance.”

“Nope,” I lied. “I'm just gonna hang with my friends tonight.”

“Hmm, whatever.”

“Where's Ruby?” I questioned. “You two are always together.”

“She's at Lynn's house, which reminds me...I need to get going. I told them I'd meet them there.”

“Just out of curiosity, who are you dressing up as?”

“I changed my mind a few times, but I finally settled on Ursula,” she said. “I get to be a wicked sea woman.”

“It suits you,” I stated, picturing her as a tentacled lady.

She shrugged and strutted out of my room.

Seriously, she strutted, as if she were a model or something.

Jade and Ruby are going to be so surprised when I show up at the dance as Cinderella.

Right now, they're so clueless.

Actually, they're always clueless.

I picked up my bag and turned around to see my step-mother in the doorway.

Pearl barged into my room, munching on a cupcake.

“Please, don't eat in here.”

“It's a free country. I can eat wherever I want,” she mentioned.

“If you drop frosting on my floor, you're cleaning it up,” I told her.

“Who's gonna make me?” she asked.

She stuck her finger into the frosting and pretended to aim for her mouth.

Then she purposely let the frosting land on the floor.

“Oops,” she said, mockingly.

“You did not just do that.”

“Oh, I think I just did. By the way, your loser friends are here.”

“I've gotta go then,” I told her.

I reached the door, but then I turned to face Pearl again.

“What?” she asked, sticking a about third of her red velvet cupcake in her mouth.

I smirked. “Stop stuffing your face, freak.”

“Why you little—“

I slammed the door in her face and ran downstairs.

Dex and Jenn were standing in the living room.

“Ember, we—”

I grabbed their arms and dragged them out onto the porch.

“Pearl—cupcake—I'll explain later. Let's go!”

We got into my truck and headed for Regine's shop.
