'See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.'

1 John 3:1

Where do we find our identity? So much of our life in today's society is made up of labels. Oh, she's the sporty one. He's a nerd. She's gay. If you've ever seen the film Mean Girls (I can't bear it, but hey, personal opinion), there are so many labels and boxes that are put on people. 'Desperate wannabes', 'Varsity jocks', etc. But should we be looking to find our identity in things that don't really make up who we are?

You see, what we really are is God's children. We belong in Christ Jesus, we are loved by the King of all the Earth. That's where we should find our identity. Not in what we do, or who we hang out with, but in God. For someone to know who we truly are, they must first know God. The bible says that our body is a temple, a temple of the Holy Spirit. We hold so many wonders, so many blessings inside of us, because He lives in us!

It's hard often to feel good about yourself when there are so many questions of identity being flung around. But all the answers can be found in one book: the Bible. Everything in there can show you that you are a child of Christ, you are wonderful, you are loved. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, hand-crafted. You are a beautiful work of art. God has given you great talents and characteristics, and they will be used in so many unpredictable, fantastic ways, but your identity should not be found in those things totally. You belong in Christ.

Prayer

Dear Lord,

Thank you that you have shaped me to be who I am. Thank you that you love me so, so, so much, and that I am found in you. please help my identity not to be shaped by what I do or what I say, but by who I am, a child of God.

Amen
