'When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?'

Psalm 56:3-4

If someone asked you to move to another country for a year, and talk about them, praise them, share their news, would you do it? Of course not! Yet if God asked you to do the same thing, your reply might be totally different. So why do we trust God? Why do we put our faith in him, and not the random dog-walker down the street?

The bible shows us many stories where people have trusted Him, and real life opens up thousands more. If we know God exists, if we have him in our hearts and mind, then we must know these things to be true. We know that he loves us unconditionally, and he is almighty. We put our faith in Him because He is good. Yet often we are too afraid to do what he says. Often, lots of things hold us back. We are afraid of what others might think. We are afraid that we won't be able to provide for ourselves if we do this. We are afraid that it will not end well for us.

But this verse reminds us of one major thing: what can mere mortals do to us? If we have a King, who is our Father, beside us wherever we walk, why should we fear? Death has lost its sting! We do not have to be afraid, because our saviour, Almighty God, is whom we put our faith in, and he shall not fail. So in every step of life, in everything you do, consider this: are we putting our trust in Him? Are we confident in the knowledge that we don't have to fear anything, for he is walking beside us? And most importantly, do we know that we have a Father, a Saviour, a King, who loves us unimaginable more than we could ever process, who is with us, always and forever?

Prayer

Dear Lord,

Please help me not to be afraid of others, and what they might think or do. Help me to know that you are walking beside me wherever I go, and that I do not have to fear, for if I put my faith in you, I can trust that you are good, and you never fail.

Amen
