'The people walking in darkness have seen a great light -- on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.'

'Come, people of Israel, let us walk in the light of the Lord.'

Isaiah 9:2 & Isaiah 2:5

OK, so today, it's the first Sunday of Advent, which means Christmas is coming soon (of course, when you read this, it might be on a totally random date, like May the eighteenth, or whatever)! And as the Christmas season is coming up (or not), I thought it would be good to look at a few prophecies of Jesus' coming, which are mostly found in Isaiah. I thought I'd start with two of the most beautiful, Isaiah 9:2 and 2:5.

In both of these verses, the prophet talks about a light coming for those who are living in darkness. Isn't that crazy - way, way before Jesus' birth, people knew about his coming and his redeeming us! And when Jesus did come, he came as a bright, burning light for those in the shadow of death and darkness. He came in the midst of chaos and corruption, and brought knowledge of the love and truth that could be found in God. And he changed the world.

Let us walk in the light of the Lord. The prophet encouraged people to do this back then when Jesus was not even around. Now we have so, so much more, we can invite His light and His joy into our lives. We can experience and amazing change in our lives, or, if we already have found our place with God, we can show others the way to find peace and love. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Let us walk in his light.

Prayer

Dear Lord,

Thank you that you are a bright burning light in my life, and that with you, I am not lost, I am found. Thank you that you came amidst all the mess of our world, and you changed everything. I want to walk in your light, Jesus. You are the only way. Thank you, God. Thank you.

Amen
