Ch. 3-"Small-Minded Bible Basher."
Of course Natalie didn't stay in the bathroom for very long since the bell decided to ring signaling that class started.
'Oh no! I can't be late to class on the first day!' she immediately began to panic as she dashed out of the bathroom and on her way to her first class. However after a couple minutes of searching she only managed to get herself lost. Seeing two teachers standing outside of the door of a classroom talking to one another. After they finished she approached one of the teachers and asked where to go."Umm, excuse me ma'am but do you know where Mrs. James' Geometry class is?" She shyly asked.
"The class is right here and as for Mrs. James you're looking right at her." the teacher replied with a kind and sincere smile. "Follow me." she gestured towards the classroom. As she and Natalie entered, Natalie took note of the students and the activities they were doing.
'This definitely isn't like my old school.' She thought as wondered why these students were just on their cell phones and talking rather loudly instead of in their seats patiently waiting for the teacher.
"Alright everyone class has begun so off the devices and those of you who have phone jail know who you are so turn them into the basket." Mrs. James commanded while interrupting Natalie's thoughts.'Phone jail?-' Natalie was confused when all of a sudden at least ten students got up and put their phones in the basket. 'Oh, now I get it.' Her thoughts got interrupted by a-DING!
"Good morning students, please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence." A random voice boomed over the intercom. As the pledge commenced everyone murmured while Natalie actually tried to recite it rather loudly causing everyone to turn in her direction where she stood in the front. She felt heat burning in her cheeks while the pledge led on. Once the moment of silence started everyone just started to whisper causing Natalie to squint in annoyance and close her eyes to pray. Once that was done everyone sat down while the rest of the morning announcements were being said, while she scanned the room and found a seat second to the last left one on the front row. The teacher called roll and Natalie looked all around the room placing the names being called with faces, but stopped when she recognized a face, one that happened to be sitting at the seat next to her on the left."Melissa Easton?" the teacher inquired whilst scanning the room looking for said girl.
"Preesent." She responded nonchalantly in a rather high but gravelly voice. While Natalie could only squirm at both the situation and her stupidity at not avoiding it. She was now sitting right next to one of the friends of the screw up identified as "Eddy" that confronted her earlier, the one who blocked her way but didn't say anything. Natalie just stared at the girl while the teacher continued to call roll. The girl had very medium length curly yellow-blonde hair with bubble gum pink highlights and had hazel eyes hiding behind the frames of her black glasses. Her attire was rather strange from Natalie's point of view; seeing that she donned a black beanie that said "unicorn" across the front of it on top of her hair, a black My Little Pony T-Shirt, skinny jeans, and white Converse shoes.
"Natalie LaMont?" Natalie jolted a little at the sudden mention of her name.
"Here," she said nervously while raising her hand.
"Welcome to Jefferson High School, Natalie," she said sincerely still looking at the roll on the computer "I hope you enjoy yourself here." She added in a chipper manner and went back to roll.
After roll had been taken the class got out their Ipad's; Natalie would be getting one in a couple of weeks, and worked on the lesson and the work from the textbook. Before too long class was over and everyone gathered their things and leaked out, while leaving Natalie and the strange girl "Melissa" the only ones in the room.
