Ch. 4-"The Social Experiment."
Natalie was always scared of what would happen if she ended up in Hell. However she was always somewhat curious what it was like, and right now her school life felt like the never ending living Hell. It had been about three weeks since she started attending Jefferson High and she had no friends and a reputation for being an extreme uptight "Little Miss Perfect". She did try to make some friends through the Tuesday Christian group at school, but like the Youth, church, and Academy kids; they were rather cold. They had already made friends with one another, and didn't see the point in trying to include Natalie. She was determined however to try and connect, and had another opportunity seeing that today was Tuesday. The minute she walked into the room where they meeting was held, she started looking for someone to talk to. Walking up to McKinsey Ryans and her entourage, she greeted, "Hi McKinsey.""Oh, hey," she responded and just went back to talking with all her friends "so anyways, I'm having a party this Friday and..."
Whatever she said after that was tuned out by Natalie as she stood there feeling like a pathetic third wheel. 'What's the point, they don't even acknowledge I exist so why should I bother trying to be friends with them. All I'm managing to do is look like a kiss up.'
"Alright, who's ready for today's little lesson?" The voice of the group's teacher-supervisor rung out.
'I just can't remember that guy's name.' She thought, feeling a bit guilty on top of her feeling of isolation. As the lesson trudged on, for the first time Natalie stopped paying attention to the lesson and got lost in her thoughts. 'I should stop socializing with people all together, they clearly never want me around, even at my old school.' But then another thought popped up, 'Actually, that's not true,... those teens were nice to me, even after I had yelled at them twice. But they're still screw ups, to both God, Christianity, and society in general.'
"Okie dokie, now that little lesson is over who wants to share their thoughts, how about you Natalie?" He said, "You're always so eager."
'Oh great, I wasn't paying attention at all. Now what?!' She thought and slightly panicked. "Umm, can I go to the restroom?" She blurted out nervously.
"Umm sure I guess?" Natalie just nodded in thanks and left.
'Really brain, out of everything that's what you came up with?!' she thought as she walked to the bathroom. 'I can't believe I actually lied, *sigh* I just seem to be doing stuff like that a lot lately.' She thought while remembering back to how she didn't tell her parents she swore at school and associated with those screw ups. Her thoughts wandered back to them 'Compared to everyone at this school, they seem so sincere and nice,... well kinda nice in their own way I guess. They really don't seem all that bad, except for their sinful flaws.' She felt a little depressed. 'If only they weren't such screw ups, I could actually associate myself with them.' As she sat in one of the bathroom stalls she immediately came up with an idea 'Well as a Christian, it's my duty to spread the message of God's word, maybe I could do that for them, perhaps show them the light. But how, they want nothing to do with me anymore.' She decided to just leave the bathroom as to not look suspicious, but as she got out of the stall she found Emma at the sink washing her hands.
"Oh, it's you." Emma noticed Natalie in the mirror, and turned around to address her. "I'm guessing you're here for that lame Christian thingy."
"Actually yes, but why're you here after school?" she asked.
"FOCUS, cause I forgot to finish that Biology paper. Anyway, later I guess."
'Wait a minute, this might be my chance to try!' She thought. "Wait, don't go yet."
"Ugh, what is it?" Emma responded irritably, "I've gotta get back to before the teacher running it thinks I'm trying to skip."
"I wanted to apologize for what I said to you guys." Natalie spouted in one breath. "I'm really sorry, you didn't deserve to be treated that way."
"Wow, umm..." the other girl literally had no words as she looked at the ground in pure shock, "well, ya know what we all make mistakes, how 'bout we start over?" she said earnestly wearing a huge grin on her face. "Name's Emma Stone."
"Natalie LaMont. Do you want to hang out sometime?" she asked.
"Sure, lemme give you my number." After trading information, the two parted ways, but before that, "Also, you're officially invited back to the lunch table."
As they both parted ways Natalie couldn't help but smile a little. 'Well, now I can at least initiate my plan, but I'm going to have to be a bit more subtle about it than before. Perhaps this little "social experiment" just might work...'
A/N: Welp, there goes up another chapter. Hey guys! Look, a new update, sorry to keep you waiting like 5-7 days. But my eyeballs, brain, and fingers were literally screaming: "KaiyaFreeSpirit, take a friggin' HIATUS for a few days!" (PS, yes I talk to myself and/or body parts :P). And sorry this is a rather disappointing and short chapter, because I was having a bit of writers' block and it kinda showed through during this chapter, especially the ending. TALK ABOUT RUSHED AND KINDA POINTLESS CONSIDERING THE LAST CHAPTER. But I'm not about to give up, I'm still rather passionate about writing this story, this was just a "transitional chapter" into the (hopefully) "good" parts of meh story. Anywho, I hope you don't throw in the towel on reading this just yet. But jeez Natalie, really going behind their backs to "convert" them, talk about crappy. Oh you're probably wondering about the change in format. (A friend mentioned that it would help others with keeping track of the reading, I hope it helps.) So again thousands of hugs and apologies for this crappy chapter, but I hope to see ya beautiful readers for the next one.
