Chapter Eight: Trouble?

Conor's POV
Monday

"Ugh, I gotta go to school again" I mumbled under my blanket when I heard my alarm go off.  I got out of bed and walked to the bathroom, where I took a shower and got dressed.

Yesterday's date with Ash was amazing. We had so many laughs yet so many deep conversations. I'm learning something new about her every day and I love it. Too bad weekend's over now and we have to go to school again.

I finished showering and put on some clothes. I got ready and grabbed a bran bar before walking out of my front door. I was late, so I had to run to catch the bus. When I got to school I had to hurry again because the bell was about to ring in 3 minutes. I was out of breath when I arrived in class but at least I was on time. I saw Ash saved me a seat so I rushed and sat next to her.

Ashley's POV
I was on the courtyard about to walk into the school when I heard someone say "Ashley, wait up!".

I turned around and saw it was Lika. l didn't realize she was going to our school now too.

"Hi Lika, I didn't know you went to school here now."

"Yes I am, my parents decided it was better to go to school here now that I'm joining Thumbs of Fury."

"That's great!" I tried to sound excited, but I guess that didn't work since I saw Lika frown a little.

"Anyway" I continued "What's your first class?"

"History from.. Mr. Spanks?"

"Great that's mine too, I'll walk with you"

When we got to class I saw Conor wasn't there yet, so I decided to save him a seat. I was just about to ask Lika if she wanted to sit with us, but she was already walking to the table behind with Wendell and Franklin. Shortly after I sat down I saw Conor run into the class room. He looked around for a second, he saw me, smiled and walked up to sit next to me.

"Alright class, today we're gonna start group projects!" Mr. Spanks smirked and the rest of the class groaned.

"You'll work in groups of 3 people max unless you have no friends and have to work alone. Sign-up sheet's right here. Pair up in 30 seconds or you'll get detention!"

"Team Ashnor!" Me and Conor said simultaneously and high-fived.

Everywhere in the class people were forming groups. I walked to the front of the class to put our names on the list. Lika was in line in front of me. I expected her to work alone, but she took more time than it should to write only one name on that list. When it was my turn I read her group: "Wendell, Franklin, Lika".

Well that is weird I thought. I walked back to our table and sat down.

"Apparently Lika's working with the other guys" I started.

"Really? You're joking right?" Conor replied. "Do you think she's up to something?"

"I don't know, we'll see I guess" I said.

Conor's POV
The gang went to Billy's to hang out after school. And in case you're wondering: no. We don't order food when we're here. We're not that crazy you know.

We just sit here, it's our usual hangout spot. Billy is okay with this because he is our sponsor, so he won't complain. I was sitting next to Ashley, with Wendell and Franklin sitting across from us. Ashley brought her laptop and was writing down notes for our next game.

"Okay so we got 3 matches coming up. A one-on-one, 2 vs 2 and 4 vs 4 (so full team). I say we pick Conor for the one-on-one, but who are we picking for the 2 vs 2?"

"I say we pick Lika." Wendell said.

"Lika? I thought we agreed to bench her." I said.

"I know, but she is a good gamer and we can secure our win this way."

"I don't know Wendell, we don't know if she's plotting something." Ashley said.

"I don't think so. She seemed fine when she paired up with us on that history project." Wendell replied.

"I think Ash is right. I'm sorry but we agreed to bench her so we're benching her." I said.

"Fine" Wendell sounded annoyed.

"I nominate Conor and Ashley for the 2 on 2 then." Franklin started.

"Who's better for the job than Cashley?" Me and Ash smiled at each other and she started blushing.

"Wendell what do you think?" I asked.

"Well I guess we have no choice, do we?" He replied, still sounding annoyed.

"I guess we don't if we wanna win, no" Franklin said.

"But we're gonna win. We don't need Leika, we're thumbs of fury!" Ashley said trying to lighten up the mood.

She turned her laptop towards us.
"So the definitive order of the tournament will be:
1 vs 1: Conor
2 vs 2: Conor & Ashley
4 vs 4: Full team

Everybody nodded. "Great" Ashley said and saved the document.

"Oh I gotta go, mom wants me to be home before dinner." Ashley started grabbing her stuff.

"I'll walk you home. Better not walk outside alone on a Fall night."
We said goodbye to the guys and left Billy's.

Ashley's POV
How sweet of Conor to walk me home. He's such a gentleman. We were just holding hands and walking the streets, enjoying each others company.

"Did you notice the guys are acting kinda weird lately? I mean with wanting to let Lika play and stuff." Conor started.

"I was just about to ask you." I replied. "I don't know, it is pretty odd that they're really liking her suddenly."

"And them being annoyed that we were gonna play the 2vs2 match" I added.

"Pretty weird yeah." he said looking lost in his thoughts. We arrived at my front door.

"Hey" I said and cupped his face. "Don't worry, I'm sure it's nothing. Maybe they just had a bad day. Now come on inside and have dinner with my fam."

"Thanks Ash, you know how to make me feel better" he smiled.

He pulled me close and kissed me. We then went into my house and had the best family dinner yet.
