I was not told of where Lydia and Hunter would be spending their evening, but I hoped it brought those two together. I really wanted bragging rights and the ability to sing, "Matchmaker, matchmaker. Make me a Matchmaker. No matter the weather, it will get better, for I am a flippin' matchmaker..." My cousin Cora and I had made up that song when we were younger. It was one of the only memories I have of her; she died of a car accident when I was almost 7 years old. Oh well, now I was feeling upset.
Then, I heard the door open and two sets of voices giggling and slurring. Oh great. They were drunk. I got up and walked over to the garage door, where I found two sober people, both dressed for cold weather and almost frozen. They started to laugh when I asked, "But you guys.. You guys sounded drunk!"
"Yeah, it is called acting. Think of it as payback for setting us up on a blind date." They both said, interjecting at random points during that sentence. I would have been simultaneously impressed and freaked out if they had synchronized.
I shrugged my shoulders. "Well, it looks like I made a match, so I obviously did something right. Now, before your teeth fall out, would you both like some hot chocolate?"
They both nodded and went to the living room as I began to prepare the hot chocolate. I added the water to the cups, spooned in the powder and added my secret ingredient: Caramel, hot fudge and a hint of mint. So, technically it should be ingredient(s). Oh well. I carried the mugs over into the living room, and then began to coo over the adorable sight before me.
They were huddled under the same blanket, Lydia had her head on Hunter's chest and Hunter had his arm wrapped around Lydia's shoulder. Of course, my mad skills allowed me to pull out my phone, quickly take a picture and send it to Gracie. I acted as though I just walked in, set the mugs down and left the room silently.
I began to check my messages. Gracie was blowing up my phone with so many Hundia things, I finally had to tell her to knock it off. She waited for a minute or two, and then asked, "Is he staying over then?" I shrugged, then realized she could not see me gesturing. "Yeah, probably. They are acting like complete lovebirds. I could walk in there right now and they would be asleep on each other."
Gracie sent a smirk emoji, and said, "Well, why don't you go prove that theory then, Missie?"
I thought for a moment on how to make this wager interesting, and then my eyes lit up.
"How about this: Loser has to go on a blind date with someone of the winners choice. Sound fair enough?" I could see the three dots, and then her reply came slamming in. "HECK YEAH!!"
I turned on the video, and then peeked inside the living room. They were both snuggled into one another, light and heavy snoring filled the silence and I metally fist-pumped. After taking a couple more seconds of the video, I took pictures and sent it all to Gracie. She was very put out at the fact that I was on a roll. Oh well, I just had to decide who would be perfect for her.
I texted a goodnight and finally went upstairs to my own room. I got all ready; brushed my teeth, put on pajamas, took out my contacts and set the fan on a low stream. I wrapped myself in my quilt, made it into a cocoon and laid on my stomach. Finally, I was comfortable and warm, along with protected. I have a vulnerability issue, so this was the only way to sleep without being in the fetal position.
I let my eyes droop down, further and further, until I was listening to the hum of the fan. Then, the next thing I knew was the sensation of someones hands on my waist.
I looked around, startled. I could see a gorgeous ballroom, gold drapery and marble floors with large crystal chandeliers shedding light on the rest of the guests. Then, my attention was turned back toward the figure who held my waist between their hands.
