That phone call had changed my life. Apparently, the number we called were my parents, and they had recognized my voice. A helicopter was supposed to come and pick me up in about a day. In the meantime, the driver, whose name was Zack, was given the reward money offered: $12,000. But, he had to continue on his journey. After I said thank you almost a thousand times, he finally left. But, he was truly the one person whose company I would not mind right now.
The police were interviewing me left and right, asking about what I could remember and trying to guess scenarios I could have gone through. Although some of them did sound more plausible than the truth, I knew better than to open my mouth. Revealing what I knew would land me a one way ticket into a mental hospital.
Eventually, the helicopter got here and I was ready to leave. We took off, and I made sure not to look down. I was not going to puke 1200 feet in the air.
We got there in about two hours and I was quickly loaded into the car. As we began to drive, a kind old lady asked how I was feeling.
"Fine, I guess. I don't even know these people. What am I supposed to say to them?" I was truly invested in this answer. What could you say to someone who you did not know, and yet they were expecting their child?
"Just ask them. While you will see them upset, you need to realize that this is not your fault. Someone was twisted enough to take you from your home and now, you can finally get the answers you deserve." This lady was not only nice, but wise as well. I thanked her for the advice, and just then, we stopped.
I got out of the car slowly, ready for anything to happen. But all that occurred was twins coming out of the door and hugging me to them. They both were crying, and I could feel my own eyes becoming misty. But, before I would cry, I had to know their names.
Almost as if they had read my mind, the one on the left announced, "My name is Declan, and this is my brother Asher. You said you could tell us apart by how our hair was parted; mine is to the left and colored blue now, his is to the right and green."
I felt the waterworks beginning to show. These boys had dyed their hair for me? Someone who could not remember them?
I broke out of their hold and rushed inside. I crashed into someone, and we both fell to the ground. I looked up, and saw a flash of red and blonde hair. Instantly, I was scooting as far away as I possibly could, sobbing hysterically as memories of a red haired woman stood over me, holding a bloody knife filled my head. Clutching my middle, I screamed and bawled, begging for someone, anyone to get her away.
"No, please. Get away. Get away! I didn't do anything to you, why do you want to kill me? I never did anything." I was choking on my own salty tears, drowning in the flood. Then, someone picked me up, cradling me like a small child. I screamed and wailed, fighting to get out of their hold. I didn't want to go back to Dom. I had to find my family.
They would not drop me, no matter how hard I punched or kicked, no matter if I had drawn blood when I bit them, they just continued to walk. I eventually gave in, curling against their body to better stabilize myself. Tears continued to wrack my body and I could not stop the sniffles from exiting.
Finally, we stopped moving and I was gently lowered onto a mattress. There were a lot of pillows and blankets, and there was a fan blowing cool air right onto my heated body. As they laid a thin blanket over me, I snatched their wrist.
"Who are you?" I whispered, afraid of what the answer could be.
"The names Max, doll. I know you don't remember me, but it's fine. We were friends; we had your first period together. We sat next to each other, talked about music we both liked and ignored the teacher. Still don't recognize a single thing I am saying?" I nodded my head, embarrassed that I had bit him. Now that I was cooling down, a lot of my actions seemed more childish.
