Continued in 3rd POV_
It pained Asher to see her like this.He didn't like it at all. He wanted to tell her everything will be okay but he himself wasn't sure so could not give her false promises.
She was broken now, shattered really was the word to describe her, robbed nearly of the tape and glue necessary to put her soul back together. Her heart, poorly stapled shut, was beating hard but without purpose, her skin stretched across her aching muscles like a worn canvas.
Her mind was like a lost man at sea, desperate and starving for some reason to live. Desperate for a memory, good, warm, welcoming, one she could smile too. It was difficult to remember her smile. She didn't ven remember the last time she had smiled.
Her father, on the other hand, too was shattered. She never saw him cry like this. She walked up to him and crouched down. She quickly hugged him, crying on his chest. Her Bhai came out through the door. He went up to his family and pulled them into a hug.
It has been 10 minutes since the docs were in there. He knew there was no chance of his mother surviving because seizure's only last 60 to 90 second and they have been there for about 10 minutes.
Finally, the doc came out of the room. His face held pain and sadness. Fareesa shook her head violently. This was not happening to her.
Finally, the doc came out of the room. His face held pain and sadness. Fareesa shook her head violently. This was not happening to her. Before the doc could say a single word, she ran out the door, not ready to heard the big news.
"Fareesa? Fareesa?" called Asher, chasing behind her, "come back. Please slow down."
She didn't speak a word. Nor did she turn around and wait for him to stop. She was too broken to speak a single word. She wasn't geared up to listen to the doc. She just wasn't. She kept running towards wherever her legs carried her. Her eyes were blinded with tears. She couldn't think properly. Her mother was leaving her.
Asher was worried that she might do something bad to herself but she wasn't stopping. He pushed between the patients coming inside not caring who it was. Right now he could only think about her.
He suddenly bumped into an elderly lady and her bag fell down.
"Why are you running like a bloody maniac son? Is there an elephant running after you?" She said and then started cackling.
Asher quickly bent down and picked up the lady's purse and handed it back to her muttering an incoherent apology to her. He would have given the lady a sermon about hospital ethics if she wasn't twice his age. Or maybe thrice. You could never know.
He looked around for Fareesa but she was nowhere to be found. He saw a figure running towards the parking lot.
That must be Fareesa he thought. He dashed towards her figure as fast his legs could carry him.
Before he could reach her she tripped on something and fell down.
"Fareesa!" He yelled as she clutched her ankle in pain.
He hurried towards her as she lay in the middle of the way trying to get up.
"Fareesa!" He said as he got towards her and bent down.
Her face was wet with trails of tears. She looked at him helplessly as she tried to get up.
It took all kinds of self-control for him not to take her in her arms and take her pain away. It was just not in him to see her like this. That's what love is. The other person's pain hurts as if it is your own. Their feelings start to matter more. You forget yourself somewhere ay behind when you start the journey of love.
"Why are you following me?" She asked him when she got up from the road and brushed the dust off her clothes.
"You could have killed yourself! How could you be so inconsiderate?" He yelled at her making her flinch horribly. He just couldn't help it. If he had not followed her here she would have let anything happen to her and this thought made him lose his calm.
"You mind your own business. What I do is none of your concern." She said coldly. How dare he come and shout at her like this when her mother was probably taking her last breaths.
She broke down in tears again at the thought.
"I can't live without her." She whimpered.
"Your mother is alright Fareesa." He said quickly.
"W-what?"
"Nothing happened to her. Inshallah nothing will happen to her." He said firmly.
"A-are you sure?" She asked.
"Yes. The doctor just told us before you ran off."
"She's okay." She chanted as if trying to reassure herself.
"Yes, she is."
"Why couldn't you tell me that before you jerk?" She snapped at Asher as he stared at her confused.
"You were the-" He started cut she cut him off.
"Can we go see her now or are you going to stay here?" She asked him impatiently.
"Let's go." He nodded, confused himself
They started walking back towards the entrance.
"Fareesa is your ankle alright?" He asked her as he noticed her limping.
"What?" She said distractedly.
"What matters, is that mama is alright. I am so happy that I could even hug you now- but that would be haram right?" She added thoughtfully after a second.
Asher laughed at that.
"It will definitely be haram right now but not in a few hours." He said to her with a wink.
"What?" She asked him confused.
"Nothing. We need to see your mother right now. Everyone must be worried about you, thanks to the stunt you just pulled." He said turning a corner.
Before Fareesa could frown and even think of something to say she saw her brother pacing around the hall with a worried look on his face.
"Bhai?" She said as she ran towards him, worry gripping her entire being. Her mother was alright, wasn't she?
"Fareesa!" He exclaimed gathering her in his arms."Thank God you are okay!"
"W-Where's mama?" She asked him fearfully stepping away from his embrace.
"She is inside. We were so worried about you. Please don't do anything reckless like this again." He pleaded with her.
She nodded guiltily. She had been so selfish! She had not even thought that her family was in the same boat as hers.
"Come on inside. Mama has been asking for you." He said pushing her towards the ward.
