(A/N: Okay, so sorry the last chapter wasn't that interesting... It was mostly dialogue. But now things will start to get better! I had a little writers block 😁 ~ Olivia)

Chapter 8

Katie rushed out of the classroom as soon as the bell rang. She was really eager to get home and talk to Tyler. Maybe even go over his house... Or would that be awkward... As she rushed down the hallway, she dropped several of her books.

"Ugh. Really." Katie groaned as she knelt down to pick them up.

As you probably expected, yes, a cute guy comes to help her. ;)

"Here, let me help you with that," this cute mystery guy said to Katie, kneeling down.

"Don't bother now. It's picked up," Katie snapped, standing up.

"Don't bother with her at all," a feminine voice filled the hallway. "Wouldn't want to be mistaken for the father, of well..." She said looking Katie up and down.

"You're a bitch, Carly," he said, defending Katie. Katie just looked away, knowing that if she said something, things would just get worse.

"No, you just know I'm right," Carly smirked as she strutted down the hallway.

"Hey, sorry 'bout her... She just likes to get on people's nerves. Just don't let her," he let a warm smile spread across his face as he turned to Katie.

Katie smiled. "Thanks, but I really have to go. Sorry." Katie didn't wait for a reply. She just walked away. She knew that was kinda rude but she didn't have time to chit chat.

About an hour later, Tyler heard the doorbell ring. He figured his dad would get it. He heard the door open and his father's obnoxious voice.

"Hi, sweetie! How can I help ya?" Tyler heard him say faintly. Probably a Girl Scout Troop selling cookies or whatever.

Katie stood at the door and stared at Tyler's father. She was not expecting this. He looked like he just woke up from fricken hibernating all winter, spring, and summer; his hair was medium length and was a mess, he had food all over his shirt and his breath smelled like alcohol.

Charming.

"Uh. Hi. Um, is Tyler there?" Katie asked cautiously.

"Sure, honey bunch! One sec." He left the door and sort of waddled to the steps.

"TYLER!!!" He screamed at the top of his lungs, laughing shortly after.

Tyler groaned as he left his room and stood at the top of the steps.

"What?" he barked, but he didn't need an answer. He saw Katie standing at the door, staring at his dad in disgust. He didn't blame her... He walked down the steps, passed his dad and out the door, shutting it behind him.

"What's up?" Tyler asked Katie.

"We need to talk abo-" Katie stopped mid-sentence. "Does your dad know about the baby?"

"I never talk to my dad.. Like ever."

"So, I'm guessing that's a no.. Okay, well anyway..."

"What did you need to talk about?" Tyler asked, getting curious.

"Its about the baby. My mom wants me to consider abortion."

"What?! No!"

"That's what I said! So now, she wants me to consider adoption..." Katie continued.

"Wait.. Why is your mom so against you keeping the baby?" Tyler asked, occasionally glancing at the window to see if his dad decided to spy on them.

"I don't know, but I have a feeling it has something to do with me not being able to 'handle it'."

"Oh. Well, let her know that we're keeping the baby." Without another word, he opened the door and walked in.

"Wait, that's it...? That's all you have to say...?" Katie asked as Tyler stood in the doorway.

"Well, was that all you needed to talk about?" Tyler asked, seeming anxious for Katie to leave all of the sudden.

"Uh, I guess... What's the big rush?" Katie asked, wondering why he was acting like this.

"I just- I gotta go." Tyler felt bad for shutting the door in Katie's face but he really needed to do something.

Katie blinked then walked back to her car, slightly confused. She brushed it off and backed out of the driveway.

Once Tyler saw Katie drive away, he sprinted back up to his room and grabbed his phone. He punched in ten digits and hit call.

"Hello?" a feminine voice answered.

"Hey, mom."

After a few hours, Tyler parked and walked into a tiny diner named Bruno's. It was his and his mother's favorite diner from when he was a kid. He saw his mom seated at their favorite table near the window.

"Hey, thanks for meeting me here." Tyler said, making her look up from her phone. She set it down on the table and stood up to hug him.

"Oh Ty! I missed you so much!" she squeezed him tightly.

"Missed you too mom." They both released and sat down across from each other.

"So, I'm glad you called me to meet up. Is everything okay? Hows your dad?" she asked, taking a sip of her coffee.

"Well, that's one thing I wanted to talk with you about. He lost his job and its getting harder to save money up and everything. I'm thinking about getting a job. Well, I mean I kinda have to.." Tyler started.

"Tyler Greens, don't you dare get a job! I'm gonna talk some sense into that lazy ass of your father! He needs to get his act together," Tylers mother replied, clearly not happy with her sons living conditions.

"And that's the other thing I wanted to talk with you about... Even if dad didn't lose his job, I would still need one because," Tyler began, "I'm gonna be a father."

Tyler's mother nearly spit out her coffee. "What did you just say...?"

"I'm gonna be a father.."

"Does your father know?" she asked, still shocked.

"Hell no. I don't even talk to him." Tyler replied.

"Okay, well, I think its good that you're taking responsibility and trying to get a job. But," she started, "I'm a little disappointed that you got a young girl pregnant.."

"She's almost seventeen, mom." Tyler defended.

"Exactly. She's young! She's still in school! And so are you!" she tried to keep her voice low.

"I don't want to argue about this. I just need some advice." Tyler insisted.

"Well, continue to look for a job and basically all you can do as of right now is help contribute some money towards baby bills and everything. How far along is she?" Tyler's mom advised.

"She's almost a month along," Tyler replied.

"Oh, so it's like, a really recent thing?" she asked.

"Uh, yeah.. " Tyler said awkwardly. Tyler looked down at the clock on his phone. "I should probably get going. Thanks for the advice."

They both stood up and hugged each other.

"Call me anytime if you need anything else, sweetie."

"Okay, mom."
