Chapter 10

"Katie, wake up," someone shook Katie as she continued sleeping on the couch.

"What..." she mumbled in response.

"Katie, wake up," the voice repeated.

"Oh, my God! What?" she sat up, realizing her father was sitting on the edge of the couch.

"Sorry to wake you.. The doctor just called. You have an appointment tomorrow at 1:00. I can pick you up from school if you want." he informed her.

"No, it's okay. I can drive myself."

"Well, you probably shouldn't. What if something goes wrong?" he really insisted on driving her.

"Dad.. Everythings going to be fine."

"Okay..." he got up from the couch, looking discouraged. Katie felt kinda bad for not letting him drive, but pretty soon she's going to have a baby so he needs to stop acting like she's a baby.

At 12:30, Katie rushed to her locker. She grabbed all the books she needed then signed out at the front office. The car ride took about 20 minutes.

When she arrived at the doctors office, the waiting room was packed. She sighed and went up to the front counter.

"Name." the grumpy receptionist didn't even look up.

"Katie Hills. I'm here to see Dr. Taylor."

"Okay, just fill out this three page packet and we'll be right with you." she replied monotonously.

Katie took one of the few empty seats and looked at the pages. She filled in all of the information about her but she kinda wished she had let her dad come.. She didn't have the insurance card.. Katie let her head back, hit the wall, and sighed. She took out her phone and dialed her dad's number.

"Hello?"

"Hey dad. Um, do you have the insurance information with you? Cause I need it for this form thingy at the doctors."

"Don't you wish I just came with you?"

Guilt trip 101.

"No, can I just have it?" Katie insisted. Her dad gave her the information and she filled out the paper. She gave it to the receptionist and waited at her seat for what felt like forever.

"Katie?" the nurse called. Finally. Katie sprang out of her seat and practically ran to the door.

"Follow me please." The nurse instructed. Her name tag said Claire. Katie followed Claire to the room. Once they were in the room and situated Claire asked a few questions.

"How have you been feeling lately with the new pregnancy?" she asked.

"I've been feeling fine. You know, just normal symptoms.."

"Have you been keeping a healthy diet?"

"Yupp, I've really been watching what I've been eating." okay, that wasn't completely true but whatever. Claire asked a few more simple questions then got up from her chair.

"Okay, Dr. Taylor should be in here soon. You're doing good so far, keep it up!" she gave a smile then added, "I'm sure you know that Dr. Taylor is a new doctor but don't worry, she's smart."

Katie smiled. "Thank you." Katie took out her phone to see four new messages.

Dylan: Good luck at the doc's :)

Mom: txt me when ur on ur way home so I can get dinner started

Hannah: heard you had a drs appt today. Good luck:)

Tyler: Heard about the doctors. Sorry I couldn't be there. Call me when you're done

She didn't respond to anyone but it was nice to know that people cared. Even Hannah... Katie is still pissed at them for spreading that she was pregnant but people were going to find out eventually...

About twenty minutes later, she heard a small knock on the door. Dr. Taylor came in a took a seat.

"Good afternoon, Katie." Dr. Taylor smiled.

"Good afternoon." Katie sat impatiently, she just wanted to leave.

"So, I saw something a little suspicious on your records and I would like to run some tests."

"Oh, okay. Is everything okay?" Katie asked curiously.

"Um, I don't know. I have to see the test results." Dr. Taylor got up and led the way to a room at the end of the hallway. Katie did as the other doctor told her to. She was told to wait back in the room while they prepare the results.

Just before curiosity made Katie crazy, Dr. Taylor finally came back with test results. Dr. Taylor was quiet at first, then let out a sigh.

"I'm sorry, Katie."

"W-what is it?" Katie got scared.

"It's your baby." she put a hand around Katie's shoulder. "It's a miscarriage.."
