Chemistry was wonderful. And by wonderful, I mean a whole hour sitting next to the most beautiful girl in the world. Occasionally she’s lean over and whisper remarks about our teacher’s anger problems. The first time she whispered in my ear I thought I was going to rape her. Only that morning I’d released myself, but Alex’s lips so close to my ear had me eager to dip in again. But this time, I wanted her.
We got out of the class and Alex hooked her arm through mine and pulled me out into the busy hallway. Immediately I was hit by the scent of aggression. I looked in the direction of Alex’s fearful gaze across the hall.
The guy that was staring me down from before was glaring at her like he was an animal. Except he wasn’t, so there was no excuse for him to look at her like that. She was mine, and she wasn’t getting disrespected.
I spoke up to Alex as we turned towards our next class. “What’s that guy’s problem?”
She didn’t look at me. “What do you mean?”
“Come on, Alex. I may have just met you, but it’s pretty easy to tell when you’re lying.” I chuckled at the end to make it seem more friendly than possessive.
She sighed and stopped. Looking around making sure he wasn’t there, she leaned in towards my ear again. I stiffened.
“Last year we made out at a party and ever since, he think I’m his girlfriend or something.” She rolled her eyes. “It wouldn’t be so bad if he didn’t threaten me whenever I’m alone.”
Her words had my blood boiling. How dare he threaten my mate. How dare he threaten this innocent, beautiful, majestic, dainty creature at all!
“Well I’ll solve that problem for you. I just won’t leave you alone.” I tried to make my words sound as light as possible without seeming like a psycho.
She grinned a true grin and giggled. “That’s perfect.”
I was relieved that she accepted my offer, but then remembered that I wouldn’t have let her out of my sight even if she said no.
We walked arm in arm to history. I was at the top of cloud nine, when all of a sudden I crossed a particular person that I was hoping to avoid.
Tenile stopped and sneered when she saw me walking with Alex. But she only glared for a moment. She quickly regained her composure and continued walking away, shaking her head. She ended up half running to the ladies room. I didn’t understand what she was upset about, she didn’t seem pissed about me and Alex. Maybe she was hurt? I don’t know. I won’t even pretend to know anything about women and their feelings. All I know is they like flowers and food. Simple enough, right? Tomorrow I’d get her some flowers and a apology card and it’d be all good.
I was glad that the confrontation was out of the way, and I turned to Alex to ask her about my schedule when I saw her eyeing a guy from across the hall. My jealousy flared up and my wolf snarled at the inept human.
But when I studied her expression in more detail, it seemed that she was, sad. Her eyes were all glassy and her brow was furrowed. Then I saw the guy sweep a girl into his arms and kiss her passionately. I saw the broken look in Alex’s eyes and guessed the problem. The dude must’ve broken her heart or something.
I grimaced at the boy for leaving something so precious and slipped my arm down and held her hand. I looked away so that she wouldn’t see that I knew, and her hand tightened around mine.
