“I don’t want to wear dress shoes!” I crossed my arms stubbornly and stared at my mother.

“Ethan don’t you want to make a good impression?” She was digging through my closet, looking for something dressy for me to wear to dinner.

“I can make a good impression with my sneakers mom! I already picked out which ones I’ll wear.” I grabbed them off my bed and showed them to her, but quickly put them back and ran to the closet when she started shuffling through one of my shoes boxes. “You’re messing up my organization woman!”

I received a back hand smack to the cheek and I fell back with an “ouch!”

“You’re going to wear dress shoes and you’re going to look decent damnit!” She stared at me and I cowered back.

“Okay! Sheesh! Don’t pull a muscle. Relax.” I sat on my bed and watched her as she rummaged through my shoe box and forever scarred my color, make, and year order. It’d take me weeks to reorganize.

My mom sat back on her knees and sighed. “I’m sorry, I just really want them to like us.”

“Why wouldn’t they like us?”

She shrugged. “He’s a hard judge of character, the Alpha.”

“So it’s the alpha’s family?” They wanted me to date the Alpha’s daughter? This was going to be a nightmare.

“Yeah.” She got up and went towards the door. “Just look appropriate, please?”

I nodded and went to my closet. I wouldn’t worry about rearranging my shoes now. I had bigger fish to fry. He wanted me to date his daughter, but would he understand if I told him I imprinted on a human? Would he believe me?

An image of my dead body on his dinner table with him above me with blood on his hands flashed through my mind. I shook my head to get the horrible thought away. Of course he’d understand! He was an Alpha and as scary as they may be, one of their jobs is to be understanding.

As I picked out my outfit and matched the shoes, I thought about Alex. I checked my phone and saw that there were no new messages. I went ahead and texted her.

Me: Whatcha doin?

As soon as I set my phone down and walked back to my closet my phone vibrated.

Alex: Cleaning -_-

Me: Aww, you dirty girl

Alex: Dirty room lol

Me: I hope you have fun!

Alex: Totally. Wyd tonite?

Me: Dinner party. yay

Alex: Have fun!

Me: Ur hilarious. ttyl

Alex: Later loser!

I decided that suffering through the night wasn’t half as bad as what Alex was going through. My mom had no problem introducing me to people she liked, but she’d never tell me I couldn’t date who I wanted. And then on top of it, she apparently was supposed to be a werewolf but hasn’t phased yet? That sucks. And after all the shit in her life she still smiled. Amazing.
