So, last time I used my powers purposefully, it was to show Sammy. Emphasis on the word 'purposefully'. Since then, throughout the weekend, I have randomly been using it without even noticing. Serena was camping with her friends all weekend so I haven't told her about it just yet.
By the time Monday comes around, I completely forget about Matt and the whole episode that went down on Friday. So when I get to school, I see Matt and don't feel a thing. This is odd, since I didn't think I would get over him that fast. I figured he should probably know so that it doesn't continue to be awkward anymore, so I walk over to him and tell him so. He just replies, "Wow, that was fast." Voicing my exact thoughts.
Right after that, I go find Sammy to talk to her about my random tweaks of telekinesis. I finally find her outside of the library, huge stack of papers in her hands. She must be working on flyers for that new club she's starting; it revolves around art so you can have a place to draw without having to worry about having a deadline for it or turning it in to a teacher. I would join, but I absolutely suck a drawing.
"I was looking for you! I have to talk to you about..." I lean in and whisper, "My thing."
"What is it? Are you in danger?"
"No, but I could be."
"How?"
"Yesterday, I was vacuuming and after turning off the vacuum, I turn around to see a pot floating in midair. Then later that night, I accidentally hit myself in the head with a bottle of shampoo from the bathroom. I was in the living room playing Mario Kart. I can't seem to control it now that I know it's there. I need help..." I look up at her face to see her staring at me. But as I look closer, I notice she's actually looking past me in shock. I turn around in confusion to see what she's staring at, and my face fills with shock as I see a random, sleeping person floating off the ground by just a few inches. As soon as I notice it, she drops. Luckily, she was asleep, but nonetheless, that was too close. I turn back around to face Sammy and we start speed-walking away from the sight.
As we race out of that specific hall, Sammy exclaims, "Holy shit, you DO need help... well, luckily I'm in almost every one of your classes so I can help as long as I can."
"Thanks, Sammy."
"Well, Savannah, I don't really want one of my best friends taken away to some lab to get experimented on, so I don't really have a choice."
First period went by fine, but that's probably because it was boring history. Nothing happened other than taking loads of notes, per usual. But second period would be a whole different story. I have a presentation to do, and I'm sure that the nerves will trigger my powers.
I sit in English, waiting dreadfully for my turn to do the presentation on my reading book, "Speak". Sammy waits cautiously by my side, looking out for anything suspicious that I might be causing. At some point, I accidentally start to levitate my pencil, but she catches me, alerting me of my nervous twitch, and helps me calm down. But then my fear hits me like a truck. Mr. Hanigon called my name.
"You're gonna do fine." Sammy comforts me, "Just breathe, relax, and do your thing. I believe in you." That makes me feel a little better. For about 20 seconds.
I feel confident in the beginning as I read the title and my name, but when I get to the second slide, it's as if a switch was flipped, and I can't help but internally screech. The whole class is staring at me. I find Sammy, and she mouths, "You can do it, keep going," but I don't think I can. I've always had slight troubles with presentations, but now it's much worse because I know what could happen. But, against my better judgment, I keep going. Every once in a while I stutter my words, but not as often as I thought I would. I finally read the last word and am so relieved that I got through it without an accident. The terrifying presentation is over, and now I can just sit down.
Sammy places her hand on my forearm and rubs it soothingly, silently telling me that it's over and I did it. Who knew school could be so stressful?
