Peridot's POV

So far this day hasn't been too bad. Not getting my face punched in by Jasper is always a plus. Along with not sitting alone, though I'm not really sure if I can trust the people I sit with as 'friends' yet, maybe not even 'acquaintances'. I continue to walk over to my next class, dodging teenage bodies in the process. I grab my schedule to see where I'm even going in the first place.

Music

Alright, I decent class for once! At least, I hope it is. I start to walk a bit faster towards the auditorium, since this school is too poor to have an actual music room. I walk in to see that a couple of people are already here. I scan the room to see that the only people I know are Sunstone and Moonstone. Eh, better than no one. I sit a few seats down from them and wait for the teacher to arrive. A few more students enter, though I don't bother to pay attention. After what felt like hours, the teacher finally walks in.

"Gooood afternoon everyone! For those of you who have never had me before, my name's Ms. Sardonyx. I'll be your music teacher for the rest of your high school career!"

It may have just been me but she seemed a bit over energetic. It's a nice change of pace from all the deadpan teachers in the school, but still a bit odd in my opinion. As she goes through the list of names that I can care less about, I begin to wonder if we'll be able to play instruments in this class. Or if it'll be a class where we just learn about the history of music, but never do anything related to music.

"Okay class, for your first assignment, you'll be paired up in groups of two and perform a song together. You'll have 3 weeks to prepare. And before you ask, I'm assigning the groups." Everyone groaned at that remark, though she quickly shushed us. "Okay, let's see here. . . Amethyst with Sunstone. . . Peridot with Lapis . . . Moonstone with. . . " I then started to blank out. That is until I remembered who Lapis was. My eyes darted throughout the room to see if she was even in this class since I never even noticed. I then catch a sight of deep blue hair. I guess she entered the room as I was spaced out in the beginning. How am I supposed to perform any song with her? Doubt she has a good taste in music. She glanced over at me as I quickly put my gaze back to the teacher.

"Now, get in your pairs and begin!" I begrudgingly walk over to where Lazuli was seated and sat down next to her. She looks up from her phone at me and smirks.

"Sup dork." I glared at her for a second but just brushed off her comment. She's not exactly wrong.

"Hello. Any idea on a song we could do?" That we can both agree on.

"Don't know, don't really care right now." She looked back down at her phone, seeming completely bored. I narrowed my eyes.

"Look, this is a group project, so we're going to have to work together, unfortunately, which also means you're going to have to perform as well." I was not going to do all of the work like every other group project I've done in my life.

"I'm not saying that I won't work with you, I'm just saying I'm not going to worry about it right now."
"And why, due tell, is that?"

"Because I have other music related things to worry about. Performing a quick song for a grade isn't really that urgent right now." She looks back to me, slipping her phone into her back pocket. As of now, I don't believe most things coming out of her mouth.

"And what would those 'things' be?"

"My business." The bluenette leaned back in her chair and kicked her feet up onto the one in front of her.

"Alright, maybe you can at least come over to help think of a song to do?"

"Busy with music things." I have officially given up on reasoning with her. She closed her eyes and I just unlock my phone and plug in my headphones, scrolling through my music playlist to maybe find a song to do. Well, one to do that won't embarrass me in front of the class for my taste in music. I get lost in searching, not paying attention to anything around me. Soon after the bell rang, making me jump out of my chair. Lazuli looks over to me and stifles a laugh. I narrow my eyes at her and stand up, dusting myself off. She casually gets up and walks out of the auditorium, glancing back at me for a second. I pick up my zip up my bag and walk out, though I don't remember opening it in the first place. Eh, probably nothing.

A/N

Eyo smol gems! Yeah I'm done with the long 'sorry for not updating' notes since this should just be expected now. And no, I could not think of any other song to put besides Peri's theme. But thank you all so much for 1k reads! Seriously, I didn't expect it. Anyway, stay safe and see you guys in the next chapter.
