*Your POV*
I laid on the bed, staring at the ceiling. My record spun around, playing my favorite band, The Tubes, over and over again. I hummed along until there was a knock on the door.
I opened it to see my boyfriend, Johnny Cade, standing there, with a black eye and split lip.
"Johnny!" I gasped, pulling him into my room and sitting him in the bed. "What happened?!"
I went to get a bag of ice for his eye. It was black and blue and purple and puffy. I pressed if against his eye and frowned.
"What'd they do this time?" I asked.
Johnny's parents had beaten him since his was old enough to walk. It was sad, really. Johnny was a sweet, innocent guy. The only people who'd hurt him would be the most evil of people. And that's was his parents were: the most evil of people.
"My dad punched me because I dropped my plate while clearing the dishes," he said. "I fell down after her punched me and he kicked me in the stomach so many times."
I frowned. "Why don't you tell the police?"
His eyes widened with fear, as if I was going to hurt him. I'd never!
"No!" he exclaimed quickly. "No! They- they'll kill me if they find out anyone knows."
"Johnny the entire TOWN knows," I exclaimed. "You have to tell the cops! If you don't I will." I stared him dead in the eyes. I've always told Johnny I'd tell the cops but I never did; I was always afraid he'd get angry at me.
"You wouldn't," he said.
I nodded. "I would."
"You always say you would but then you never do," he said.
"This time I'm serious." I stared him in the eyes. "I'll call the police."
"If you love me," he said. "You won't."
I stared at him in disbelief. "Are you seriously making me choose between your safety and your love?!"
He nodded.
"Johnny, baby don't do that," I begged.
"why?!" he exclaimed. "If they find out the COPS know, they'll kill me and say they don't know any Johnny's."
I sighed. "Babe, the cops can arrest them," I said.
"No," he snapped. "They can't. Only for a period of time. Not forever. They'll get out. And they'll hurt me worse."
"No they won't!" I exclaimed. "By the time they get out..." I took his hands and smiled. "We'll be married. Have children. Moved out of Tulsa. Just like we always talk about."
He pulled his hands away and stood up. "Yeah, okay," he said.
My smile faded. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"It MEANS if you actually loved me," he snapped. "You'd listen to what I want. Instead if what you think is best." He threw the bag of ice on the ground and stalked out.
"Babe!" I exclaimed, running after him. "babe, talk to me!"
"Fine!" he yelled, turning around. "You want me to talk?! This is what I have to say: if you want to help me so badly. Get me out of my house. My parents will get me when they're out of jail in you call the police. My parents will get me if I live with them. You care so much? How come I haven't been offered a spot at YOUR house?"
I sighed. "Because I've been saving it," I said. "I was going to ask you on your birthday. As a surprise."
He smiled. "Really?"
I nodded. "Really."
He smiled and kissed me deeply. I smile bright and kissed him back. "I love you Johnny," I said.
"I love you too, [y/n]," he said, kissing me again.
