*Your POV*

I held her hand and walked into the dingo. I was on my three month anniversary date with my girlfriend, Cherry Valance.

We sat in a booth and I pecked her lips before ordering for both of us. We always got the same thing.

"I love you," she said suddenly.

I stared at her, smiling and blushing. "I love you too," I said. I kissed her deeply from across the booth.

We sat, talking for a few minutes until Cherry's ex-boyfriend, Bob Sheldon came over.

"Hey Cherry I saw you kissing this girl over here," he said. "What was that about? You a f*ggot?"

Cherry furrowed her eyes brows. "I didn't kiss her!" she exclaimed. "I kissed her cheek because we're friends and that's what friends do Robert. Now if you don't mind, leave me and my friend alone for our nice friendly lunch."

Bob chuckled and rolled his eyes. "Looked like a lot more than a peck on your cheek," he chuckled. "F*ggots."

He chuckled and walked away. I looked at Cherry, tears brimming in my eyes.

"Oh, don't cry, baby," she cooed, gently touching my cheek. "Bob's just an ass. That's all."

I swatted her hand away. "You're my girlfriend. Not my friend."

Cherry sighed. "I know, but can you imagine what would happen if that got out?"

"Who cares?! You're my girlfriend and I love you and you love me and that's all that matters!" I exclaimed, close to crying. "Cherry you're my first ever girlfriend. I- I wanna be proud of it."

Cherry frowned. "I love you and you're my first ever girlfriend too, but I don't think we can be proud."

Tears fell on my cheeks and I stood up. "I have to go," I said. "Have a nice lunch, friend."

I walked out of the dingo and down the street. Tears were streaming down my face. I turned into an alley and slid down the wall, crying into my knees.

She said she loved me yet she couldn't even be proud of me. I understand, it's hard to have a partner of the same gender as you but you have to TRY and be proud! We'll never make any progress in the world if people are too afraid to be proud of who they are.

I heard footsteps and I looked up. I sniffled and wiped my eyes. "What do you want, friend?" I snapped.

"To talk," Cherry said. She sat next to me and pulled her knees to her chest. "I'm really sorry," she said. "I'm really really sorry. I've never had a girlfriend and-" I cut her off.

"See, neither have I," I said, obviously still upset. "And I can still try to be proud of it! Cherry, what's the point of being together if we can't even go out in public unless we're gonna pretend to be friends?"

She sniffled. "Because we love each other," she said.

"And we have to be proud of that," I said. I wiped my eyes and looked at her. "Cherry, I don't want to do this. I don't want to be together, hiding behind some wall of normality and not being able to show who I really am. I don't."

"Neither do I!" she exclaimed.

"Then don't tell people we're friends!" I exclaimed back. "Tell people what we really are! Tell people we're girlfriend and girlfriend! Tell people we're in love and kiss and do all the same things girlfriends and boyfriends do!"

She looked at me, tears brimming in her eyes. "Okay," she said softly. "We'll do that. We'll be proud and not care what others think and if people don't like us for it so what?! That's their problem."

I smiled brightly and kissed her deeply. "That's my girl."
