-Ashton-

"Luke, slow down." I freeze, staring at Michael on the phone, standing next to my locker. Michael notices me and waves me over, and I slowly inch closer to the taller boy.

Michael removes the phone from his ear, putting it on speakerphone as I unlock my locker.

"Okay, what were you saying Luke?" Michael asks.

I take deep breaths, removing the books from my locker and putting them into my bag as I hear Luke's voice - my Soulmate's voice - for the very first time.

"I don't know Mike, all of a sudden I'm just really nervous. Is this normal for everyone? A couple days before you meet your Soulmate, you get really nervous?" A deep, thick Australian accent says over the phone. I laugh softly at his statement, knowing I've been nervous about meeting my Soulmate since I was first taught about Soulmates when I was 8.

"I wouldn't know Luke, I still have 5 months left on my countdown." Michael laughs.

"I'm scared that he won't like me. He might think I'm too tall, or too stick-like, he might think my hair is stupid, or that the bands I like suck, he might tell me I should be better at basketball since I'm so tall, he might think I dress too emo, or that my eyes are a stupid color, or that-" Luke goes on and on, making me frown. He's listing his insecurities, but they're mostly about his looks, while mine are mostly stupid stuff that I obsess over because of my anxieties. This relationship needs to work. He needs to know the things that upset me and the things that calm me down. The things that I dislike and the things that I love.

"Luke, stop it. You're amazing, and I'm sure he'll see that too. You need to calm down." Michael says, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Are you sure Mike?" I can hear Luke's frown from over the phone.

"Luke." Michael's voice goes into a warning tone.

"Give me a second, Luke." Michael says, sending me a frown as he turns off speakerphone and holds the phone up to his ear, walking down the hallway, continuing to talk to Luke.

I frown, pulling the rest of my books out of my locker.

Why did Luke react the way he did, and why did Michael leave? Is there something wrong with Luke that I should know about?

I frown, getting anxious that Michael isn't here to walk me to class.

Michael runs back to me, the phone still pressed against his ear.

"Sorry Ash." Michael says, covering the mouth-piece.

I give him a fake smile, and we start walking to my class.
