Everybody reacted at once, pulling PokeBalls from their pockets.“Go, Emolga!”
“Help, Roxy!”
“Grovyle!”
Everybody except Jake that is. As Holly, Bonnie and my Pokemon appeared to give us protection, Jake fumbled to open the front pocket of his bag. The smaller Pokemon were no match for us, each one batted away like a useless fly. However, every now and again, a larger Pokemon would attack, causing us to strike as one.
“Roxy, use Flame Charge!” Holly called. I looked to Grovyle and ordered,
“Leaf Blade!”
Bonnie made up the last of the triple attack, ordering Emolga to use Volt Tackle. Together, our Pokemon toppled the likes of Electivire, Magnezone and Electrode. But our efforts would be in vain, because the giant beast that had been next to James just moments ago was bearing down on us.
The Pokemon unleashed a deadly Thunder attack, illuminating the sky. In that brief flash of light, I identified the Pokemon as none other than the Legendary Pokemon, Raikou. “Two legendaries in a day! I must be dreaming!” Jake exclaimed, before hurling his only Master Ball at the legendary dog.
Raikou was sucked into the Master Ball with such speed, that its Thunder attack never had time to initiate. Jake knew he only had one Master Ball, but he chose to use it now, to possibly save our lives!
The ball shook once.
Holly was the first to notice the effect on the other Pokemon. The electrified minions were paralysed, regaining their senses.
The ball shook twice.
She saw an opportunity to catch one of the cutest Pokemon in the crowd, a Shinx. Holly took an Ultra Ball from her belt, and slowly crept forward.
The ball shook for a third time and clicked.
Each and every Pokemon simultaneously snapped out of their confusion. They all took a look around, amazed at how far from home they were. The Shinx that Holly was after looked up to see a human towering over him. “Go, Ultra Ball!” Holly said, throwing the Ultra Ball at Shinx. Unfortunately, Shinx was not as dozy as the others, and expertly side-stepped the ball. “No! Roxy, use Flamethrower!” Holly called, desperate for a new Pokemon. Once again, Shinx was smarter, jumping into a nearby bush.
Meanwhile, the swarm of Pokemon regained their memories, each one clambering back over the hills from which they came. “Impossible!” James exclaimed, glaring at Jake. Jake simply smiled, picking up his Master Ball and waving it at him. “Hmph, you’ve got wits all right, but we’ll just see how smart you are under the Heart Breaker’s infatuation!” James screeched, leaping into the scenery.
Soon after, the clouds lifted and Holly returned. “Well?” Bonnie asked. Holly smiled triumphantly, showing her Ultra Ball to Bonnie.
“Tee-hee! I got him!” Holly announced. I grinned and turned to Jake.
“I don’t know how to thank you Jake!” I muttered. “You’ve saved us yet again!” Jake blushed, scratching the back of his head.
“Oh, it’s nothing! I’m just psyched that I caught a legendary!” Jake responded.
“Wow! A Gym Badge and two Pokemon captures! Must be our lucky day!” Holly exclaimed. I sighed and shook my head.
“Yes, but in my world, things can only go from good to bad.” I grunted.
After we were rested and ready, Bonnie felt something vibrate in her pocket. She pulled out a small round device which looked a lot like a telecom. Bonnie slotted it in her ear and listened intently. I waited patiently, and noticed that Jake had one of the devices in his ear too. They both took the earpieces out at the same time and said, “The Masters of Metal have identified that material!”
Jake handed me one of the devices to look at. I took it and examined the machine, whilst Holly stared at the one Bonnie was holding. “Metal Masters? You mean those scientists?” I asked.
After a short ride on Holly’s Dragonite, we were back in Pewter City once again. Jake pointed out the laboratory and we entered quietly. Eventually, we found the right room and I took a glance at the name plates on the door. MADOKA AMANO and ALEKSEI the plaque read. “Hello?” I asked as I pushed the door open. Just then, a silver object came into my eyesight - it was flying right at me! I absently ducked, the object smashing into the wall behind. I looked up to see a girl in a pink lab coat holding some sort of launch based object. “Whoops! Sorry about that! My name is Madoka Amano! Pleased to meet you!” she said.
Later, we were all sat around a table, awaiting the arrival of the scientist named Aleksei. “So, what was that thing that nearly hit Toby?” Holly asked Madoka. The scientist smiled and said,
“Oh, it’s nothing of your concern! Just a harmless spinning top is all!” A few more minutes of awkward silence passed, and finally, the door burst open. A man in orange stepped inside, holding the metal I had entrusted him with. “Hello, my name is Aleksei!” He stated, handing the metal over to me.
“You must be Toby! Well, I’m sure you’ll be happy to hear that we’ve identified the use of this device!”
Holly was becoming impatient, I could tell by her tone. “Well? Spit it out!” She prodded. Aleksei asked Madoka for a magnifying glass, which she obtained in seconds.
“Toby, use this to inspect the metal, and tell me what you see.” He said, handing me the magnifying glass. I took the metal in one hand and peered through the glass.
What I saw was a strange red pattern. I looked at the scientists quizzically. My mouth was open to speak, but Madoka saved me the question. “Attack.” She said in a clear, blunt voice. I instantly felt the metal buzz, and I returned my eyes to it. The red pattern began to swirl, faster and faster. From my side, Holly’s Riolu cradled his head, falling to the floor. “Riolu!” Holly called in terror. The symbol stopped, and rotated in the opposite direction. Riolu began to lift itself up, and opened his eyes. What we saw would haunt us for the rest of our lives.
Riolu’s eyes were blood red, glowing with the taunt of zombies. He looked around and instantly targeted me. Holly’s Pokemon leapt forward, charging up a Force Palm. “Abandon order.” Madoka said, again in a clear and blunt voice. And then, in mid flow, Riolu froze, falling onto my lap.
“Riolu! Are you ok?” Holly asked, carefully picking up her partner.
“What was that?” Bonnie uttered. Aleksei stepped in to answer the question. He took the metal and held it up high.
“This, in short, is a mind control device that Giovanni intended to use on your Pokemon!”
I thought for a few minutes after that. Strange, how Riolu had singled me out... Strange, how he had targeted my chest...
He had wanted my mum's PokeBall...
