After I’d healed myself and Piplup, we all treated our Pokemon to Rare Candies. Our next destination was Cerulean Gym. I wonder how Misty was doing? However, Jamie spoke to me telling me the sad news. “I did it. I battled you and I lost, fair do’s.” He stated. “I’ll be back when I’m stronger.” He said with a smile. I understood. All he wanted was to beat me. Same old Jamie. He bid everyone a fond farewell, Raichu waving as they walked away in the path of Vermillion. “Goodbye!” We all shouted after him.

We were now outside Cerulean Gym, but something seemed different. I was eager, running inside accompanied by Holly. Jake and Bonnie soon followed. I was completely surprised by what I saw. Grass, trees, wood and leaves were scattered all around the place! “Huh, some Water-Type Gym.” Bonnie commented.

“Excuse me? Is anybody there? We were hoping for a match against the Gym Leader!” Holly called out into the mini wilderness. For quite a while, there was nothing. Until suddenly, a tree started to rustle, attracting everybody’s attention. And sure enough, a person leapt from the foliage, elegantly flipping onto the ground before me. The person stood up, showing a happy face. “Hello there! I am Gavin! Welcome to my Gym!”

“Your Gym!? Where’s Misty?” I asked. Gavin sighed heavily and looked closely at me.

“Misty has business in the Sinnoh Region, but she’ll be back very soon.” He reassured. Holly couldn’t care less.

“Yeah, yeah. Let’s go already!” Holly urged, ready to battle.

“Ha! A feisty one! I like you! Now, I have only one rule in this Gym... You must compete in pairs!” Gavin announced. Holly and I instantly high-fived without even looking at each other.

“Perfect.” We both said.

Holly and I both stood on tree stumps, (Gavin’s idea of a podium) awaiting battle. He gave Jake and Bonnie directions to the spectator stumps, and then greeted us with a flare of his shining teeth. “Now! Of course this is a Double Battle style, so if one of you has all of your Pokemon beaten, your partner can still win both of you a badge each!” He explained. We both nodded. We knew that neither one of us would be losing.

“All right, let’s begin!” Gavin declared, throwing two PokeBalls into the air.

“Go! Simisage and Leafeon!”

Holly and I both brought out our own PokeBalls, slinging them into the air to meet with Gavin’s.

“Go, Amber!”

“Heads up, Cyndi!”

Holly’s Dragonite had won us our last Double Battle, but I was determined to survive this fight.

All four Pokemon erupted onto the Battlefield, Gavin’s Pokemon sort of blending into the trees. “Leafeon, use Leaf Blade on Dragonite! Simisage, use Crunch on Cyndaquil!” He ordered, starting the match. “Amber, use Seismic Toss on Leafeon!” Holly called, her Dragonite instantly whooshing forward. Simisage and Leafeon started to run towards us, readying their weapons. Leafeon’s head leaf began to glow, surging with the power of Grass. Simisage flared its huge teeth, looking very similar to a Mighteyena. “Cyndi, use Flamethrower on Simisage!” I called. Amber and Leafeon met in the centre of the field, both of them shooting towards each other at high speeds.

“Leafeon, attack!” Gavin called. Leafeon arched its head back, preparing to strike.

“Grab it!” Holly called to her Pokemon. Without question, Amber reached out an arm at Leafeon, grabbing its head leaf as the head swung down. In seconds, Leafeon was hoisted into the air. Meanwhile, Simisage was just about to attack. And then, Cyndi shot a hot barrage of flames straight at the opponent, overpowering it and sending it crashing into a nearby tree. “Wow... Next time I won’t go so easy on you!” Gavin announced. Simisage hit the ground with a loud thud whilst Amber slammed Leafeon into the turf. Both Pokemon instantly fainted, obviously the weakest of Gavin’s Pokemon. He returned them and brought two new PokeBalls out.

“Go, Torterra and Meganium!” Gavin hollered. He instantly followed by ordering Meganium to use SolarBeam, and telling Torterra to use Rock Slide on Amber. Unfortunately for Holly, Amber was not yet ready, she was still picking herself up from the Seismic Toss. I knew there was nothing to be done about the Rock Slide, but maybe I could stop the SolarBeam...

“Cyndi, use Flame Wheel and stop Meganium!” I ordered, Cyndi instantly rolling into action. Just then, the Rock Slide came tumbling down on Amber, slamming her back down onto the ground. “Amber!” Holly cried. Meanwhile, Cyndi was speeding towards Meganium, but I feared I was already too late...
