Eon's POV
The white ceiling poked at my eyes as I laid on my bed. I was thinking.
That was how it ended? Maia's life? Jumping into an abyss in a simulation?
This is hopeless.
Forestra told me that plants grew in her wake whenever she walked on soil, and that she was able to conjure thorns.
Blackout, Spotlight, and Arcmagos had gained their own superpowers.
About Blackout, she almost killed Spotlight. Twice.
Pyroclast and Riverflow fought off some students from Grade 9 with fire and water, respectively.
Rocksworth restrained Blackout with stone shackles the second time the latter advanced on Spotlight.
Cyclone paralyzed a student with lightning.
I had seen Maia's death play out to me like a movie.
All with the words...
"You are an Enigma."
I wondered for a moment about what the term Enigma meant. In this case, anyway. Nothing made sense in my head, any of it. It just hurt my head every time I thought about it--
CREAK!
I looked toward my door grumpily, only to see Era's face pop in.
He stared at me, uttering, "Is there anything bothering you? Must I go?"
I sighed.
I shook my head, then nodded.
"Yeah. It's just... I don't know if you'll believe me..."
"I'm a kid! I can believe anything," Era's expression danced with glee.
"What if I told you all my friends have superpowers and that I am an Enigma?" I said in a deadpan manner.
Era chuckled.
"Okay, maybe not everything. Are you tricking me?"
"No! It's just that..."
Do I really have to lie to get out of this with Era's help?
"I have a narrative to write for English, and in the story, the main character's friends all have superpowers. How would a real person think about this situation? I'm struggling with that part..."
"You want to make it feel real?" Era asked.
"Exactly! Any ideas?"
Era shrugged.
"If I were them, I'd have my friends use their superpowers to fight bad guys! Is there a... what was it again..."
"Describe it for me," I insisted.
"Well, it has guys with glasses that make things seem bigger. Their eyes go like..."
He reached up to his eyes and made them considerably bigger than normal.
Something clicked.
"You mean a mystery?"
"Yeah! A mystery! If that's it, I'll have them try solving the mystery while their friends fight off bad people."
"What if that mystery is how they could... uhh... bring someone back to life?" I asked.
My head clicked with an idea.
I could possibly try to solve how to bring Maia back!
I held in my gasp to let Era think.
His face brightened.
"I think they should find something magical to help them! Does the main character have any superpowers?"
I mused, thinking about when I had that one vision of Maia and then hearing this: You are an Enigma.
I answered Era, "Sort of. They can have visions of their destiny, but they don't happen that often."
"How about... the person waits for something to happen that can help them bring that person back to life?"
I smiled.
"Guess that works! Thank you, Era."
"Are you feeling better now?"
"Yes, indeed."
