It had been a few days since Madeleine had last seen the group. She wasn't upset with them, and surprisingly, nor with Damon. After what had happened at her flat, and Damon basically finding out about her secret she managed to keep for this long. She had just been locked up in her flat, preoccupied with trying to finish up the mandated amount of songs Calum had required her to do. Over and over, she muttered words that turned into phrases then into melodies.
She was frustrated and overwhelmed but she needed to finish the album. She had created 3 songs so far, only needed three more to go. Surely, you'd think, she could have a break from creating and go out into the world again and socialize. But you didn't know the label. The requirements, the pressure. It was all too much, and she made it look easy. She was talented, gifted; but what else would you expect from a siren. Their vocals were mesmerizing. No wonder she was a singer, and had a huge following. It was expected.
BUZZ BUZZ
Her phone went. She looked over to see the message appear on the lit up screen.
Are you still alive? -unknown
Her brows furrowed together in confusion. Who's number was this? She thought rereading the message before another followed suit.
Maddie, are you in a trance like state again?
-BonnieShe rubbed her temples together, and huffed. She lent forward, putting some weight on the keyboard. She looked over the sheet music she had started for her fourth song, and saw there was some progress. SHE was something she had started months ago, but never finished. How could she? With no motivation, no push. She reached over to grab her phone, and replied back to her cousin, Bonnie.
I'm fine. Just trying to finish the album. Might stop by the Grill in a bit for something to eat. Is Matt working?
He should? I'll ask Elena.
-BonnieThanks.
I'll meet you at the Grill.
-unknownWho the hell is messaging me? She asked herself again. She left them on read, rolled her eyes, and got up from the seat she had left only to rest in her bed for the first time in four days. She stretched and ran a hand through her hair to get the waves untangled and smoothed out. As she did so, she made her way to her room and swapped her sweater out for a tank top. She'd forgotten she wasn't in the bi-polar weather that California had, but instead the humidity that came with being in the South.
She grabbed her keys, a couple of elastics to put her hair up if she needed it, her phone, and a cardigan. It was already 4pm, and soon enough it would be dusk and the cool air of spring would hit. She left her flat, locking the door from behind her, and to her surprise, Niklaus was there.
"Hello, my dear." He said soothingly.
She jumped slightly, and sighed. "Hi Nik."
"What no, "Niklaus" today?" He asked.
She rubbed her temples again, and sighed. "Sorry... I'm just... overwhelmed."
"Would you like to talk about it?" He offered.
She shook her head politely and replied, "No, thank you. I just want to go eat."
"Well... let's get something in your system then. Shall we?" He said sweetly, and held out his arm for her to take.
She gave him a small smile and a soft chuckle at his sweet gesture and interlocked her arm with his and leaned her head on his shoulder as they walked down and over to the Mystic Grill. A couple minutes went by and they were already on the sidewalk, making their way down to the Grill when she finally spoke, barely audible to the human ear."Why are you so nice to me, Niklaus..." she asked.
Her comment caught him off guard and he stopped in his tracks, looked down at her and could see in her facial expression alone that she had not been okay during her four days in solitude. He brought his hands up to her face, cupped her cheeks in them, and looked in her eyes.
"Please tell me what's wrong, Madeleine..." he asked softly, compelling her to tell him the truth.
"I visited the house I used to live in... burnt to the ground..." she replied in a slightly monotone voice.
"Why did you do that to yourself, my sweet.." he asked again.
"I went for a walk and ended up at the curb in front of it..." she replied once again.
He frowned slightly, and sighed, and let her face go as he did. He rubbed his face and said lightly, "Do you wish you could forget what happened?"
Madeleine looked at him and shook her head. "No. It's important to me, just as much as it's important that I had m encounters with you... I would never wish to forget that."
And just like that, she felt better. She talked about what was bothering her, though not voluntarily, but regardless she thanked him. She breathed in and looked at him. "Please don't do that to me again, Niklaus... We're friends. Just ask without doing that..."
Niklaus had opened his mouth to speak, but redacted and nodded instead. "Alright, love."
