Chapter One: Lonely Man

She walked past the old-timers buildings on the block she was in, looking all around her as she made her way to the Mystic Grill. A little after school and weekend joint inhabited by those that lived in Mystic Falls, Virginia. After her flight had landed, she had called her cousin from her personal mobile and agreed to meet her there a little after seven. She looked at her wristwatch that wrapped around her thin left wrist, and saw it was only six-fifty in the evening. From where she stood, the Grill was only a five-minute walk down the street. She'd be early.

Four years. It had been four years since she had seen Bonnie, her cousin. She reached the Grill with minutes to spare and took a deep breath as her chest began to beat heavy and hard. She was nervous. It had been years since she last saw her, and she thought, 'Would she recognize me?' Her nerves were not calmed but she still walked right in to the building where she would see her relative.

Unfamiliar faces turned their heads to the opened door of the grill, bar attendees kept their heads down, ashamed for drinking this early but still not giving a damn, and waiters and waitress' stopped their hosting while she walked down the steps. She was not someone they knew, a stranger – something not common around their parts.

She gave no acknowledgment of their stares and looked around the lobby for the girl of dark skin and black hair. But instead, caught the eye of a man who sat at the bar drinking shot after shot of what might have been bourbon or whiskey. He looked so lonely, sitting there all by himself. She pitied him. Though she knew, pity would not have helped him with his problem. Internally she hoped to herself that he would stick around a little while longer after she paid a visit to her cousin.

There she was, the girl of dark skin and black hair sitting in a booth by the windows and playing with her bracelets just like she did as a child. She looked back to the man at the bar once more and headed over to her cousin. She reached out and tapped on her shoulder lightly and waited for her to turn around. Right when she did, she sprung up from her seat and hugged her tightly.

"Bon-Bon" She said to her as she let go with a smile on her face.

Bonnie let out a soft laugh and nodded, "I can't believe it's really you, Pink."

Ah yes, Pink. The childhood nickname she had been bestowed upon since her adoption due to almost every belonging of hers painted with the light fluorescent colour. She loved pink then, and now still. Though it wasn't as much as before, she did still casually sneak in the colour in almost every single outfit of hers.

"You were expecting someone else, Bon?" She pretended to look hurt, putting her right hand over her heart and making an offended facial expression.

Bonnie shook her head, "No, but I didn't think you would come." She furrowed her brows slightly and tilted her head before Bonnie continued her explanation, "I mean because you're so busy with your album and everything. I didn't think you would come at all."

She felt guilty for telling the truth, but it was just that – the truth. She looked at her nails picking at the tips and hearing the flick of her nails hit each other.

"And miss a chance to vex my uncle? No way I'd pass on that opportunity." She replied to her with a small smile.

Bonnie shook her head once again but smiled, "I'm so glad you're here, though," and with a hushed voice finished her sentence, "Too bad it's kind of bad timing."

"What's that Bon-Bon?' She replied confused slightly at her last remark.

"Nothing," Bonnie said, "How was your flight?"
