I had gotten out of the tub, clothed and dried, and ready to face Damon. Why in all that is sane would make Damon come in to my flat unannounced, but more importantly, come in to my goddamn bathroom. While I'm bathing, if I might add on to that. I was indecent, and wet, and not human. I was fully exposed, from the waist down to Damon. He saw what I was, and his expression - not something I want to see from everyone I meet. He looked at me confused, and shocked like he couldn't believe it was true.
But it was true. It's not just a myth, or legend. It's truth. All those myths and legends you hear when you're a child is all true. The forest fairies, and wisps. The leprechauns, and unicorns. Mermaids and forest nymphs. Hybrids are real. Every single fairytale and folklore tyou heard growing up was true. It seemed like Damon didn't know. How could he not know though? I mean, hybrids, vampires, werewolves, witches? That's all around him, and he's one of them, but he doesn't believe in mermaids?
That's silly to think, isn't it? I mean, I didn't believe it all either until it happened to me. Till my thirteenth birthday, and my adoptive mother, Bonnie's aunt, took me to the beach. I went to go in, and play in the water. I swam and swam, and then suddenly my legs were gone. They were turned into a long blue fishtail, and I could suddenly breathe underwater. I didn't understand it all. I went back to surface, and called over my mother. I told her to look under the water, and she saw it too. She and my father took me out of the water and said to never let anyone know about this.
No one knew, other than my parent's and Bonnie. She was the only one I ever told. Only because she called me a scared cat at her birthday party when we were 14. How I didn't want to go in to the pool, but she insisted. I proved her wrong. I jumped in, and there it was. My tail. I thought it was no big deal, until the other girls at the party began to freak out, and my mother sent me home. I don't know what happened after that. I didn't go back to the party.
I shook off my past thoughts, and met up with Damon in my living room. I raised a brow at him, ready to scold him for coming in to a woman's house and bathroom while she's in the bath, and trying to get her out. I crossed my arms across my chest. Drops of water fell to the ground from the tips of my hair, while I narrowed my eyes at the idiot in front of me.
"Really?" I asked, annoyed.
"Look, Ashten, I'm sorry. I-"
"Damon, you can't just do that! You can't keep waltzing in and out of my flat whenever you feel like droppin' by, and coming in to my bathroom. This is my flat. Not yours. Got it?" I interrupted, already ready to yell at him.
"I know, and I'm sorry. I just-"
"You know, this isn't your house where you can come and go whenever you please. There are boundaries here, yeah? Meanin' you can't come in and out of my flat unannounced, and unexpected. That's not how this works. Especially if you have no idea what kind of people they are. What if I was a vampire hunter? You'd be waltzin' in to a trap. Don't do that." I scolded him, as I used my hands to express what I was feeling.
Damon sighed. "And another thing, you're going to get yourself killed one of these days if you don't watch out." I huffed.
"Awe, Ashten, are you worried about me?" Damon asked, putting his right hand over his 'heart'.
I rolled my eyes, "Yeah sure." I responded.
I sat down on my sofa, and put my hand on my head. "Alright, now to explain what you saw in there."
"Yeah, like what was that? Are you-" Damon started before I cut him off.
"A mermaid. Yeah." I said, lowering my head to look at my hands.
"Have you always been -"
"A mermaid? No. I didn't really know I was even a part of that until I was 13." I explained. I shrugged, "I guess my mum and dad were, but they died in a fire when I was 3 and I never knew."
"I'm sorry about your parents." He said sincerely.
I looked in to his brown eyes, sighing. I know he meant it. I have a way of knowing that sort of thing. I nodded, biting my lip. I shrugged again. "It's okay. I have a really good mum now. She supports my whole mermaid and singing thing." I let out a small chuckle.
"I suppose that's good?" He said, his voice sounding a bit cheery.
"It is. Yeah." I replied, a small smile on my lips, "Damon. You can't let anyone know that I'm a mermaid. Not even Elena. She can't know. She doesn't know. Please, don't tell her. Don't tell anyone." I pleaded.
Damon nodded, and gave me a smile. "Okay. I promise."
"Thank you. Now leave." I said.
"What? I thought we got past that." Damon whined.
"No, Damon. Your punishment for coming in to my flat is to not come here for two days. Now go. I'll see you around." I pointed to my door.
He groaned, and rolled his eyes. "Fine." Damon smiled again, and kissed my cheek. "I'll come by to check on you later."
"No, no coming by."
"Then I'll see you at the Mystic Grill." He said again, and vanished before my eyes.
I sighed to myself, What am I going to do with him?
