Last week was really productive, the grass at the library had been cut entirely and Robby had been paid. He'd even volunteered to offer his services as a gardener as well. Right now, the flower seeds were germinating.
I had to get a carpenter ,or someone who knew his way with furniture, to help me saw the shelves in half so that they didn't stand from ceiling to roof but instead stood half way, the back of each half standing against themselves.
I had ordered a set of rugs for the floor of the entire library, the sitting area of the library, and the main office. Repainting of the library was ongoing and soon, everything was going to be over.
I definitely needed a break from all the work. News of the opening library had spread around town, and I had to deal with inquisitive townspeople pouring in here and there. Some of them were kind enough to suggest helpers, others... they simply wanted something to talk about.
Most times, questions of why I left town popped up, I figured that those who asked were those who knew me during my stay here. For people like that, I told them that I simply wanted to see the world outside of Fairweather. My reasons for leaving were mine alone, no one else's.
I do remember that Red had always asked me to the little get together—that was usually held at her house—on each of her visits to the library. If I was going to get her off of my back, then I could spend my break period at one of those get together occasions.
I picked up my phone and dialed her number which she'd made sure I saved in my phone. Besides, I needed her house address.
___
I wasn't surprised at all to see that most of the ladies at the get together were girls I knew then.
Maybe attending the small gathering wasn't my smartest idea. Though, I couldn't do anything about it now, seeing as I was already seated in their midst, a drink in hand.
"Hey, who heard, McGregor's planning to sell his home." That was Red. She was clad in a sundress and sandals, her red hair tied in a messy bun atop her head. "Heard his moving to the city. His son, Johnny— you know Johnny, don't you?"
"Some of them don't, Red—" Elaine spoke up "—and others—" she looked at me, "— weren't here when the McGregor's moved to town."
Elaine Flanagan was, in those days, one of the 'populars' as they were usually called. They came from rich families, had the best things in town, and were entirely bratty. There were nine of them in total. Four girls and five boys.
Elaine Flanagan, Molly Burke, Cynthia Graham, and Lauren Wall were the 'populars' girls, with Lauren Wall as their leader. I wondered where Lauren was and why she wasn't at the gathering.
"Fine. Johnny McGregor moved a few years back— I can't remember how far back it was— anyway Johnny is Lauren's, or rather , was Lauren's boyfriend before he dumped her for Cassie Reid."
"My goodness! Why?" A lady I didn't know asked. From her appearance, it was clear she was trying too hard to be like Regina, and she was clearly failing at it.
"I know, right? I mean, everyone thought they were gonna end up marrying themselves," Molly who had been quiet the entire time finally replied. "Then one day, news of their break up is running round the school."
"Served the bitch right," Red piped up. I was also well aware of the tension between Regina and Lauren while we were in school. It was even more confirmed with the acidic tone in which Regina replied. "Anyway, that's a topic for another time. Anne?"
I looked at a smiling Red. "Yes?" My voice came out small and tentatively.
Her grin stretched even wider. "Why don't you tell us what you've been up to," she suggested, the topic of Johnny McGregor and Lauren Wall clearly forgotten. "All this town gossip is really boring, don't you think, ladies?"
They all voiced their agreement, ten pairs of eyes fixed solely on me.
Attending the gathering was one of my dumbest ideas.

We're still going back in time to know the reason as to why Cohen had to leave town, after all, this is one part of the chapter. *Wink wink*
Important notice! I gained admission into a predegree program, so naturally, my education comes first. I'll try my possible best to update.
Love.
