Lest spent about an hour baking a cake meant for his travels later on in the day. He was headed for Water Ruins. After clearing it out, it really was a nice place to stay and hang out. It was peaceful without the monsters there and the water was always clear and beautiful.
Though it'd be better if he could actually get people to go with him there.
People were always busy. Almost everyone had a job, and the people who didn't always had errands to run. Once, he'd almost gotten Meg to come with him on her day off, but some big accident happened at the restaurant and she had to go.
He sighed. He wondered if he was the only one without a job. Well.... he supposed he did have a job. A job that involved farming and such things. Also, that girl did want him to head down to Obsidian Mansion, but the last time he went down there he nearly didn't make it back.
He considered bringing something to do, but he couldn't think of anything. He'd probably just end up taking a nap after clearing the place out anyway. He wondered briefly if Kiel would be busy. Probably. He was always reading.
He equipped his sword and shield and set out to get to work. If he was lucky, he would be able to sell the items the monsters dropped when he came back. He might be able to raise enough money to buy some decent weapons and challenge that mansion again. Or perhaps he could save enough for that cabin in the woods, and settle down with someone away from the hustle and bustle of the castle....
He shook his head. That was nonsense. Not only was it a ridiculously expensive dream, but an unrealistic one. Even if he somehow managed to buy the house there was no way that the other person would ever agree...
Lest was about halfway to Water Ruins when he saw something unexpected. Kiel was sitting on the ground, and he appeared to inspecting a Chipsqueak. Lest could see a rough sketch of the animal in the book Kiel held in his hand. Or at least, that's what he assumed it was. The drawing was so messy he couldn't really tell...
"Kiel?" Lest called out, and the man shot up so fast he scared away the Chipsqueak.
"Y-yes!" Kiel exclaimed, still with his back facing Lest. Lest came closer and tapped him on the shoulder, and he jumped again, turning around slowly. He finally relaxed when he noticed just who it was that had found him.
"Ah, Lest! I was afraid that you were Forte!"
"...So my voice is that feminine then?"
"What?! Oh, no! I just assume anyone out here is either a bandit or Forte because I never see anyone else..."
"So, your first impression of my voice was that I was a girl, rather than some kind of bandit..."
"Ah, no! It's just because you said my name, so I automatically just thought that you were... I mean, your voice is very masculine! Once, I heard Margaret say that she--" Lest laughed and bumped Kiel playfully in the shoulder with his shield.
"I'm joking. Relax." Lest peered down at the book in Kiel's arms and smiled.
"Did you draw that?" he asked.
"Oh, yeah! I was thinking that I could write my own book about all the monsters in the area!"
"Can I see that?" Lest asked, and Kiel gave it to him. Lest flipped through the pages and smiled.
"There are a lot of monsters on here that you don't have. I can help you out with that, if you want. Also..."
Lest set to work and drew a Chipsqueak beside the one Kiel drew. Kiel smiled sheepishly. Compared to Lest's drawing, his looked like a child drew it.
