Two weeks went back quickly and Bria and myself were safely back in Fresno, with Madison, who was extremely happy to see us return. Today, we're over at Carmen's parents' house, my parents as well, just chilling out and to announce our engagement.
"So how did you guys enjoy Italy?" Carmen asked.
"It was amazing! It's so different compared to the states! It was very nice and thank you Kane for giving us the opportunity.'' Bria smiled at my dad.
''It was really nothing, you two deserved it.''
Madison was starting to fuss in Bria's lap and that only means one thing. She wants her pacifier. So, I picked up her diaper bag and handed it to Bria, who extended her left hand to reach for it.
''Ooh! Bria, that's a pretty noticable piece of jewlery.'' My mom pointed out.
Bria blushed, chuckling. ''Oh, yeah about that.''
''Let me see!" Her mom took her hand in hers and inspected it. ''Bria, is this?''
Bria smiled nodding her head.
''MY BABY IS GETTING MARRIED!'' Carmen shouted, standing up and hugging Bria.
''ZANDER STORM I'M SO HAPPY FOR YOU!" My mom cried, kissing my cheek.
''Well congratulations son.'' My dad smiled as he pat my back.
''Corbin?'' Carmen looked at him, who didn't have the most joyful expression.
''Dad? Aren't you happy for me?"
''No.''
''What?!'' Everyone said in unison.
''You're not happy at all that your own daughter is getting married?"
''To him? No, not at all.''
What on Earth did I ever do to Bria's dad to have him not like me? For the six years that Bria and I dated I've treated her parents with the greatest respect. Yeah, her dad wanted to kill me when we were teenagers, but that was years ago and Bria didn't end up pregnant!
''What's wrong with him?" Bria asked.
"He's not a responsible person.''
"How am I not responsible? I work and I've been taking care of your daughter since we moved in together, need I remind you we have a child together! Yeah, that's not being responsible.''
''You'll see, Bria. He'll end up leaving you and making you raise Madison on your own. He's the type of guy who gets bored easily, I mean look at his dad. Kane cheated-''
''-shut your fucking mouth!'' I yelled, standing up. ''If I didn't want to marry your daughter, let alone be with her I would've never went back out with her or asked her to marry me. But if you think I'm going to sit here and let you talk shit about me in my face you're wrong.''
I walked out of the living room, through the kitchen, and out the patio doors. I sat down on a nearby chair, pushing my hair back, sighing. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea.
I heard the door slid open and I saw my mom come walking out. Oh, great! More adults telling me my proposal was a bad idea!
''Why doesn't he like me?"
''Don't listen to what Corbin says, Zander.''
''How can I not? He was saying it directly in my face! If that's what he wants then I'll break off the engagement.''
''No! You love Bria and Bria loves you, don't back down to Corbin. I've known Corbin since I was seventeen and this is how he acts when he gets scared.''
"Scared of what?"
''Change. Corbin is a person who doesn't like change, especially if his only daughter is getting married.''
''Alright, I get that part, but there was no need for him to talk shit about me.''
''I agree with you on that and I'm sure your father and Carmen are talking to him. But don't break off your engagement to Bria, you remind me of your father and I when we were at that age. Young and not a care in the world.''
"But what am I going to do about Bria's dad?"
''He'll accept it and he'll get used to it, trust me.''
''Okay, I'll take your word for it, Mom.''
