Chapter 16: Secrets Revealed

The rest of the afternoon passed with laughter and joys until it was time to leave. The children left first and the majors helped to clean the table. After washing up the plates, the younger ones decide to leave too. Ran had to go back to school for some work and Shinichi had to meet up with Anzu. They went out of the house and went to the front door. At some point Ran stopped and looked at the sky. She saw some birds flying away.

"How lucky they are... with no problems... they are free... "

Then Shinichi stopped hearing her, turned around and looked at her.

"You feel imprisoned?"

"Yes. But I don't know how... I don't know why." she continue staring at the sky.

"Normally you should feel liberated by now... since there is no longer- no, you should be liberated from the past by now." he replied whispering and continue to look at her.

The girl smiled faintly and turned towards him. "Do you really think that I can forget? Forget everything that happened... our friends... you...?" her voice was cracking and she felt a tear ran down her face.

It had stopped raining and the sun came out again. The light made her eyes sparkle and her face light up. Shinichi felt something inside him telling him to go at her, while his mind was telling him no. He left his bag fall and ran to her side. He hugged her and shook her in his arms. The girl didn't move but she hugged him back instead.

"I am sorry... I am really sorry... for everything." he whispered in her ears.

"Maybe you are... but I won't accept your apology so simply... sorry... if you want to we can be friends from now on. I have a boyfriend now you know." she replied awkwardly.

"Yes, I know. And I also know that I deserve all of these. I can't expect from you to forgive me... not just like that. But..."

The girl pushed him gently away and made a few steps forward away from him.

"I'm sorry Shinichi... goodbye..." and she left like that.

The boy followed her as she was leaving the garden an disappearing in the street. He stayed there looking the place where he last saw her until he remembered the reason he was leaving too. He shook his head to wake up and to clean his mind. He picked up his bag from the ground and went home. He bathed, changed his clothes wear a fake smile, got the tickets and the coupons from his bag and went to Anzu's house.

* knock knock *

"WHAT?" an angry female voice sounded from inside that made Shinichi to step back.

"I am... I am... Shi-Shinichi... remember?" said the frightened boy but he got no answer. " Anzu? Are you ready yet?... Anzu?" but again no response. Then Shinichi decided to open the door. It was unlocked. He carefully opened it and went inside. Once he got inside he felt someone push him to the front. The boy stumbled on the stairs in front of him and he collapsed on the floor. Then someone sat on him and put a knife to his neck.

"Who you are and what you want?" sounded a wild female voice over him.

" A-Anzu? SHINICHI. I am Shinichi... IS THIS A KATANA?" his face became white.

She pulled his head back by the hair to see his face.

"Shinichi? Oooohhhh.... I am so sorry!" she got up and help him to get up too. She put the katana in it's case and helped the detective to relax a little from the shock.

"What happened?" he asked puzzled.

"Let's go. I will tell you on the way."

She pulled him by the hand, locked the house and ran away from it. They went to the park two blocks away which was nearby to a family restaurant. They enter the restaurant and ordered. After some time Anzu decided to speak.
