RASHEL:

I got into my room to change. I was really looking forward to going to the club and getting drunk. Because when I get drunk, I forget everything. I forget that I have a hole in my chest, I forget that I am miserable, and I can have fun. When I get drunk, I can be anyone I want to be because I am no longer scared. In my sober state, I am scared as hell but not in my drunk state. I become the old me when I am drunk. And to be honest, I am hoping a visit from the old me. I stood in front of my huge closet, looking for something to wear. I didn’t want to dress up, but Drew was here. I have to try as hard as I can to convince him that I am as happy as anyone can be. Normal people are happy on their birthdays. I rummaged through my closet to find something that was suitable, but couldn’t. Just then someone knocked on my door. I opened only to see Drew standing there, with an embarrassed expression on his face. I raised my eyebrow at him and he rubbed the back of his head.

‘Drew?’ I asked.

He gave me a bag. I took it from his hand and looked inside it. It had a dress.

‘What the hell is this?’ I asked as I looked at him incredulously. Don’t get me wrong, it was really sweet of him to buy me a dress, but this is Drew we are talking about, a guy who absolutely hated shopping. I got that from him. How the hell did he manage to buy me a dress?

‘I knew you would react like this. I told him, but he wouldn’t listen.’ Drew said, throwing his hand up in the air.

‘Who is he?’ I asked him as I got inside my room with Drew right at my heels.

I sat on the bed and Drew sat next to me. ‘Ashton.’ He said.

‘Ashton Kutcher?’ I asked jokingly. ‘You know him?’

‘Shut up, Shortcake. You know whom I am talking about.’ He said and rolled his eyes.

Yeah, I did know whom he was talking about. He was talking about Ashton Scott, his best friend and his flat mate. Drew shared a flat with Ashton in Manchester. He worked with YouTube too and that’s how they ended up becoming friends. I know Ashton; I talk to him quite frequently. He is exactly like Zach and that is why no matter how hard I try, I can’t help but say that he’s one of those people I call my friend. When I first talked to him, I was my usual rude and arrogant self. But somehow Ashton never minded. He always used to talk to me even if I would only insult him. Somehow, his persistence broke through my shell and I became friends with him. The only thing is that he is a serial flirt, something Zach isn’t. Zach never had to be. Girls throw themselves at him. Ashton, too, is the kind of guy every girl wants. I haven’t met him but I have seen him in photos Drew sent me. He is actually very handsome, any girl’s dream. He is your typical “bad boy” with his rough looks. But still, even though his looks say something totally opposite, Ashton actually is kinda sweet. His behavior and his looks make him a very wanted guy.

‘Ashton put you up to this?’ I asked, holding up the fabric.

‘Yeah, he said and I quote “You’re going there after a year and it’s her birthday, you gotta give her something.” I told him that I am shit at shopping, but he wouldn’t listen. He asked Glow to go with me. I tried to talk her out of it too, but they wouldn’t budge.’ He explained. Glow was Ashton’s sister.

‘Your Glow?’ I asked him as I smirked.

Drew had the biggest crush on Glow. He was crazy about her. He told me about her a month ago. Since then, he had been pining for her. Drew was never the kinda guy who would wait so long for a girl. He had always been a ladies’ man, given his looks, but he said that he was actually scared to make a move on Glow. He said that she was Ashton’s sister and he didn’t want to jeopardize their friendship. I know, clichéd. But that’s Drew’s life for you. Now, it’s been a month and he still hasn’t done anything.
